You forgot about the third group - the people who read Shakespeare so they can sound smart to the people who actually enjoy Shakespeare and intelligent to the people who can’t understand it.
Nobody likes them.

I’m constantly surrounded by people like you. How do I make it stop?
Why are you ignoring the group that reads Shakespeare in the original Klingon?
I don’t speak Klingon; I thought they were reading Beckett - and we all know how gauche that is.
They still suck anyway.
Where did I say I was better than anyone?:dubious:
Sorry, but it evidently is part of the human condition for rare steak devotees to sneer at those who like their beef well done.
My point was, why judge others on what they enjoy if it causes you no problems? I do not have any history with the poster in the ‘What Did Walter White do that was evil’ thread, you say it was a drive by, I felt his comments about his BIL were out of context with the thread and snarky, he replied, as did I. Hardly a Drive by. To those who say im judging those who judge, yes I suppose I am, however I was asking about motivation for random nastiness. Where was I nasty? I have met many more people in life who look down on those who they believe have base interests than I have those who bad mouth people who likes allegedly more high brow media…
Where did I say I was better? I said that everyone is different has different talents and interests…:dubious:
If you don’t like people who think they’re smarter than everyone else around them, but not as attractive, socially capable, strong, athletic, brave, interesting, successful, rich, funny, organized, educated, tall or sexually desirable, you’re on the wrong message board, amigo. ![]()
Overall, you are correct.
But there again, ignorance and pettiness are not admirable qualities and people who “don’t like to read” are ignorant and reality TV is pettiness personified.
honestly I probably would have just responded with a “did I ask for your fucking opinion?”
And judged them for being smug and patronizing about it.
↑ ↑ ↑ This…![]()
Pot, meet kettle.
And, I should add, maybe I’m being some kind of cooking vessel myself. I’m not pretending to be immune to this aspect of the human condition.
Put simply, there are some people who are unable to feel good about themselves unless they can find someone else to look down on. These people sadden me. How awful it must be to be them.
The answer to these kinds of questions is always the same.
Because it feels good.
It feels good to think you’re better than others. Especially when you feel insecure about yourself.
Another reason it feels good to judge? Because people are fucking annoying. Sometimes the only way to release the tension is to mentally make fun of people who bug the shit out of you.
Now, what I don’t understand is the need to express judgments out loud. I totally understand “judgy” thoughts, because I have them all the time. But I try to keep them to myself.
I don’t tend to have judgey thoughts, unless say there is a mystery or something and then I offer it as a logical theory. Roomate never paid a hint of rent, and after you kicked him out you found used syringes with brown residue in them? Yea he might have been a heroin addict.
I find the nonsensical judgements the strangest, like a grocery store clerk that told me wow you sure buy a lot of cheese so you’re like that, I was like like what exactly? She had no comment. I was buying a half pound of cheddar and a half pound of feta, guess I am one of “those people”![]()
Me, too. But it’s got a rhythm and I can dance to it. Nine out of ten.
Uh yea, because this social back biting garbage causes a lot of damage?
This sounds like don’t you see you are also intolerant, of people who are intolerant!
