Juggernaut vs Captain America's Shield

The big, bad-guy mutant with infinite momentum is capable of knocking down and busting through anything when he runs into it.

Cap’s vibranium shield can withstand and absorb any impact.

When the irresistable force meets the immovable object, what happens?

‘Why don;t you put that hammer down?’

Probably about the closest approximation we’ll see.

Well, there’s this.

The shield is not an immovable object, just an indestructable one. I think Cap simply gets pushed back, and I think we’ve seen this happen a few times in fact.

in light of what Mijin said, what if we’ve been looking at Cap’s shield the wrong way all along? Obviously as an object, its not immovable but, being indestructible, maybe it is an unexpected manifestation of the unstoppable force and it’s Juggernaut who is actually the immovable object in the context of the OP.

We can also look at it from an IP point of view. If the two options are juggernaut shows weakness or Cap’s shield bends/breaks, of course they’d choose the latter. Cap’s shield is a man-made object, and they can easily write in some (dramatic) destruction of the shield, followed by him being given one that’s 100x stronger.

I suppose it also depends on whether Juggernaut is the primary or secondary villain of the story.

Captain America’s shield is utterly indestructible, made entirely of Vibranium. The only people who have been able to break/destroy it were characters with godlike powers, such as Serpent, Odin’s brother, and Dr. Doom when he stole the omnipotent Beyonder’s powers.

The best he can hope for is to stagger Steve backwards a little bit. He’s not getting past the shield.

There’s a very large “BONG!”

For a device made of a metal which absorbs vibration, I’ve always been intrigued that the shield makes sounds when struck.

Well, Black Panther scratched the shield with his vibranium claws in Captain America: Civil War. So it’s not entirely indestructible.

That might have just been the paint job.

In the comics, the shield isn’t pure vibranium. It’s an alloy of vibranium, iron, and other unknown components, and is the only alloy vibranium has ever been known to form. Adamantium was created in an effort to duplicate the feat, and is just as indestructible, but doesn’t have the momentum-absorbing properties.

Isn’t Juggernaut powered by a god?

He’s powered by the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak. So more or less.

He’s not a mutant. He’s very much not a mutant. If you want to get Cain Marko pissed, calling him a mutant might actually be the quickest way (not that it ever takes a lot of work).

According to my high school physics teacher, there are two answers, one scientific and one social.

Scientific answer: an infinite amount of heat is generated.

Social answer: they get married.

I think a better question would be, stick Juggernaut in a giant Adamantium or Vibranium box with enough room to run. What happens when he hits the end?

It’s not even that indestructible, prime Ultron was made of the same material and they melted the fuck out of him.

It always made me sad the way Gladiator was able to simply toss Juggernaut miles away like a sack of potatoes-Random thought on reading thread

I thought that was Vision - I didn’t think Ultron used the Vibranium on his other bodies.
