You know, when I was a young girl, I just loved Archie comics. But, I often wondered what the “S” on Jughead’s tops stood for. Anyways, the other day my granddaughter was visiting and as my daughter and I chatted at the kitchen table, my grandaughter was occupying herself with an Archie comic book - on the front was Jughead (and Archie) and I was reminded of the "S’ question.
Apparently, there is no definitive reason. See here
So Superman ripped off Jughead? Way cool!
[Moose]Uh, it stands for Riverdale.[/Moose]

This is better suited to CS, and a move there will also allow discussion of the comic in general now that the factual aspect of the OP seems to have been addressed.
Moving thread from General Questions to Cafe Society.
Two favorite Moose moments I still recall from Archie comic books I owned back in the 60s:
Now…on to Jughead’s hat?
Chasing Amy
HOOPER
*Archie and Jughead were lovers.*
(sips his drink)
BANKY
*Shut the fuck up.*
HOOPER
*It's true. Archie was the bitch and
Jughead was the butch - that's why
Jughead wears that crown-looking hat
all the time: he the king, of queen
Archie's world.*
BANKY
*Man, I feel a hate-crime coming on.*
It’s been around a while, but this trailer for a fake Archie movie is hillarious - and Betty is some kinda hot! Riverdale
I read a story in an Archie comic (no idea which title, issue, or what year) where the “S” was the topic.
The gang was trying to solve the mystery and Juggy wasn’t talking. In a subplot, for some reason Jug was turning on some local girls, which could have been a story in itself. Betty and Veronica were talking about the “S” on his shirt and commented that they always thought it stood for Slob but now thinks it stands for Sexy.
I would totally watch that movie!
I’ve never seen it before. Thank you. It’s hilarious!
The “S” stands for “Walter.”
Previous thread here. More than you knew there was to know about it.
