Sounds like a nice person.

I got mine, too! Thank you.

I’m glad you liked them! I had fun writing them. I was kind of going through MPSIMS withdrawal by that time, so it was a pleasure.

(Side note to Asmodeus: Slovakia! No civil wars, beautiful country, great beer! )

How did they skip the war?
Shouldn’t they at least be full of refugees and rebel bases?

They skipped the war by having a “velvet divorce,” so called in an analogy to the “velvet revolution” that brought down communism. On Jan. 1, 1993, Slovakia and the Czech Republic amicably went their separate ways. (Yes, there were hurt feelings. Yes, the Czechs cheated, lied and stole everything that wasn’t nailed down. But no shooting.) (This is the Slovak version, you want the Czech version, go to Prague! )

There were some ethnic Slovaks living in the former Yugoslavia, and some of them came to Slovakia as refugees. They also took in some children during the Kosovo crisis. But you have to remember that Hungary is a fairly large country (by Central European standards) and stands between Slovakia and the war zone.

Rebel bases? I don’t know. Maybe you’re thinking of Kosovo, or the Albanian border? There certainly aren’t any armed gangs wandering around Slovakia.
