That used to be true until he was found guilty of 34 felony charges. Something many on this board said could never happen because they thought Trump would never face consequences.
He still hasn’t. Call me when the door clangs shut.
The maximum sentence for each count, served consecutively. That’s 136 years? Then add on for breaking the gag order, etc.
Just being convicted is a consequence. And it’s one that is affecting him, if you see that he is in danger of losing liquor licenses in a couple of his businesses, which is just one ripple of that particular situation.
Now, has he faced full justice for what he has done? Not anywhere close. And as you say, “when the door clangs shut” is when he comes closer to getting what he actually deserves for his actions. But there is a difference between that and the idea that he’s untouchable. He is absolutely not. (Though, ugh, don’t ask me to touch his slimy reek.)
We will see in 10 days what he will be dealing with. I hesitate to hope too much, but at the same time I don’t think he’s going to get away with a slap on the wrist. That judge was not bending over backward for him. I have a feeling that what he faces will be a lot less than we’d hope but a lot more than he ever believed would happen to him.
If he doesn’t serve time it only effects him positively: “They tried to stop me and failed!”.
It wouldn’t be true that it only affects him positively, but you are correct that he could benefit from that claim.
I don’t see why they would. After all, Obama was just performing official acts.
But he wasn’t a real President since he was foreign-born, so nothing he did could be an official act. String him up!
Biden should carry a hatchet around everywhere and call it his “official axe”.
He’s in danger of losing liquor licenses, but hasn’t yet. I hope that Trump will face some real consequences from the legal system, but as of right now, it’s still just words.
Bannon will be in on that date, so maybe they can be bunkmates for a while.
Looks like you might need to change your thread title. Since the Supreme Court has anointed our presidents as kings, it seems likely that Trump’s sentencing will be delayed, at best.
The motherfucker wins again. Robot_Arm has the right of it, so far:
Regarding “community service”, what happens if the “community” wants nothing to do with the offender? Years ago in a local animal abuse case, the judge sentenced the offender to community service in a local animal shelter. However, the two local shelters that were approached both refused to interact with the offender and wanted nothing to do with him. The court eventually found other work for him.
Bannon is in Federal custody, Trump (perhaps) will be a ward of the state of NY. However, when Bannon needs to be transferred to New York for his upcoming trial, there’s a chance he’ll be housed at Rikers Island.
What possible thing could he do? He’s not capable of picking up trash beside the road.
I’m kinda serious here, what could Trump do that would be community service? He’s gonna be surrounded by 4-6 (guestimate) SS agents all the time.
It can’t be anything physical. And can’t be anything that takes a degree of intellect. What. Can. He. Do?
Come on, he can throw paper towels at hurricane victims. That’s always helpful.
Go door to door, “Hello, I’m Donald Trump, convicted felon.”
If the walking is too much for him, he can do the same thing, greeting people at Walmart. “Welcome to Walmart, I’m a convicted felon.”
As others have said, I just want the Orange Felon to be given exactly the same sentence that I would be given if I had been convicted of the same crimes, including the contempt of court charges. The fact that he was once the president should be irrelevant.
The prosecuters just agreed to delay the sentencing, I think because of the new Presidents are Kings rule. Up to the judge to agree.
I think the US needs a new, “The supreme court has made its ruling, now let them enforce it” moment here. Toss Trump directly in jail under New York State’s legal authority, and dare the Feds to try to break him out.
