July 2010 Poetry Sweatshop - Logistics Thread.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the logistics thread for the July 2010 Poetry Sweatshop. These have been tremendous fun in the past, and have produced some top notch work from the participants.

As with the past Sweatshops, any interested poets will have one hour to write a poem - any style, form, length, rhyme scheme (or no rhyme.) - but the poem must incorporate three words chosen at random. The words will be in an auto-reply message that can be received by writing to sdmbpoetrysweatshop at gmail dot com after 9 AM EDT on Friday, July 30th. (Please remember to mention your SDMB username…) Send the poem in a reply to the auto-reply, and the time stamps will show whether the poem was completed within the hour or not. Sorry, lurkers - entry is restricted to those who are permitted to post on the SDMB, be they Guests, Members, Charter Members, Mods, Admins or other interesting titles.

In the last hour of the Sweatshop, an Anthology Thread is started and the words are announced in the Original Post; at the end of the Sweatshop (i.e. at 10 PM EDT on Monday, August 2nd) a poll is established, in which readers are encouraged to vote for their favourite poem. At the close of the poll, the poet with the most votes is acclaimed Poet Laureate of the SDMB. Past Poets Laureate are tracy jo, Maserschmidt, The Hamster King, Pandoranoid, Maserschmidt, Elendil’s Heir, mauxlicious and Elendil’s Heir. No, those aren’t misprints - Maserschmidt and Elendil’s Heir are both two time winners.

I would like to begin this month’s Poetry Sweatshop on Friday, July 30th at 9:00 AM EDT, and close on Monday, August 2nd at 10 PM EDT. (It’s a holiday weekend in my corner of the world.)

Since the April sweatshop, we have used a multiple choice poll, and I’ve been very pleased with the results. Unless there are any strenuous objections, I’d like to keep the poll multiple choice.

And, of course, if there are any logistical considerations, this is the place to bring them up. I’m hoping lots of you can find a spare hour sometime this weekend.

Best wishes,
Le Ministre de l’au-delà

Thanks - looking at my weekend schedule, I should be able to take part again.

i’m excited!

Ack! I’m celebrating my birthday this weekend and the boyfriend is in town. Don’t know if I’ll be able to find the time. Fingers crossed, and I’ll look forward to reading the final thread regardless.

I’m going to be out of town for my dad’s birthday… hopefully I’ll be able to sneak away for a little while and do this.

Yay! I’m in.

The July 2010 Poetry Sweatshop is now up and running. For those who missed it at the top of the page, send an e-mail to sdmbpoetrysweatshop at gmail dot com. You will receive a vacation auto-reply that says the following -

Have fun!

Two poems so far - mine, from first thing this morning, which was barely finished in time. (I’m always astonished when other people’s poems come in and the time stamps show they wrote something quite impressive in twenty minutes. I’m usually within five minutes or less of having to disqualify myself.)

And a fine piece from Crowbar of Irony +3 - bravo!

Off to sleep for the night - hoping some more daring poets give it a go overnight.

Around 36 hours left to go, and I just wanted to give this a bump.

It’s a beautiful, sunny Sunday morning here - I’ve gone for my swim, finished my coffee and finished the crossword. If any of you are in a similar state right now, why not try to write a poem?

Of course, the trick is the only people seeing this are the ones who have probably received an e-mail or clicked into this thread once already. Still, in the hope that someone might take up the challenge, the thread is bumped.

I’ve been very busy this weekend (saw Inception yesterday and am still mulling it over), but hope to be able to submit a little somethin’ poetical.

Did it! I think that’s the fastest I’ve written one for this. I’m not real sure of it… the poem just kinda happened instead of me mulling it over, pondering, second guessing…

We’ll have to see if that is for the best or not…

Bump for more attention. Doubt that I’ll be able to squeeze the time in for my own poem tonight, unfortunately.

Bumped again. I’ve submitted my poem.

Two more hours. I have poems from myself, **Crowbar of Irony +3, Elendil’s Heir, Serenata67, melodyharmonius **and mauxlicious.

Still time for a few more - anybody game?

One hour left before the Sweatshop closes. The Anthology Thread for this month may be found at this link.
