May 2010 Poetry Sweatshop - Logistics Thread.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the logistics thread for the May 2010 Poetry Sweatshop. These have been tremendous fun in the past, and have produced some top notch work from the participants.

As with the past Sweatshops, any interested poets will have one hour to write a poem - any style, form, length, rhyme scheme (or no rhyme.) - but the poem must incorporate three words chosen at random. The words will be in an auto-reply message that can be received by writing to sdmbpoetrysweatshop at gmail dot com . (Please remember to mention your SDMB username…) Send the poem in a reply to the auto-reply, and the time stamps will show whether the poem was completed within the hour or not. Sorry, lurkers - entry is restricted to those who are permitted to post on the SDMB, be they Guests, Members, Charter Members, Mods, Admins or other interesting titles.

At the end of the Sweatshop, an Anthology thread with a poll is started, in which readers are encouraged to vote for their favourite poem. At the close of the poll, the poet with the most votes is acclaimed Poet Laureate of the SDMB. Past Poets Laureate are **tracy jo, Maserschmidt, The Hamster King, Pandoranoid, Maserschmidt **and **Elendil’s Heir. **

I would like to begin this month’s Poetry Sweatshop on Friday, May 28th at 9 AM EDT, and close on Sunday, May 30th at 9 PM EDT.

The April sweatshop, we tried making it a multiple choice poll, and I was very pleased with the results. Unless there are any strenuous objections, I’d like to keep the poll multiple choice.

And, of course, if there are any logistical considerations, this is the place to bring them up. I’m hoping lots of you can find a spare hour sometime this weekend.

Best wishes,
Le Ministre de l’au-delà

Yep, I guess I am in.

Thanks as always, Le Ministre de l’au-delà, for organizing. Since you are running the show feel free to ignore this if it doesn’t work for your schedule…but I wonder if the days can be shifted slightly? Since it’s a holiday weekend in the US and people might be traveling turnout might be lower than usual. (Or maybe it’ll be higher, if more people have the time to do it.) Just a thought.

Perhaps extending the submission time until Monday evening might help out US travelers. I, personally, have no plans this holiday weekend, but others might.

I hadn’t thought of the US Memorial Day - I’m perfectly game to make that 9 AM Eastern Daylight Time on Friday, May 28th until 9 PM Eastern Daylight Time on Monday, May 31st. Do you think that would suit everyone? Please let me know.

That’s a good idea - thanks. I’m definitely in!

Augh, yet again you pick a weekend that’s terrible for me. My boyfriend is coming in tomorrow night, and he won’t be flying out 'til Wednesday morning.

Sounds good…I’ll be there.

Thanks so much!! That’s great.

Sounds like a plan! I’m looking forward to it!

I’m in again…love these things, thanks for organizing them, Min!

Couples that rhyme together
Are sublime together.

Just sayin’.

… That actually might be a decent idea.

The Sweatshop has started - to all interested poets, send a message to sdmbpoetrysweatshop at gmail dot com, and you will receive an auto-reply as follows -

Wishing all of you an inspiring weekend,

Le Ministre de l’au-delà

Crowbar of Irony +3 - got that! Well done!

I’m hoping more poets get inspired this weekend!

And I have received poems from ** xenophon41, Elendil’s Heir** and ** mauxlicious** - good work, everyone!

Elendil’s Heir, Serenata67 ** and ** Cuckoorex - I’ve received your poems as well - fantastic!

Less than 23 hours remain…

I sent mine in this morning at 8 am PST, although it occurs to me that I might not have put my Straight Dope name on it. I’ll send you another email to make sure … .

Heehee. Mine was so good Ministre acknowledged it twice!

Or so forgettable … :stuck_out_tongue:
