June 2010 Poetry Sweatshop - Logistics Thread

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the logistics thread for the June 2010 Poetry Sweatshop. These have been tremendous fun in the past, and have produced some top notch work from the participants.

As with the past Sweatshops, any interested poets will have one hour to write a poem - any style, form, length, rhyme scheme (or no rhyme.) - but the poem must incorporate three words chosen at random. The words will be in an auto-reply message that can be received by writing to sdmbpoetrysweatshop at gmail dot com . (Please remember to mention your SDMB username…) Send the poem in a reply to the auto-reply, and the time stamps will show whether the poem was completed within the hour or not. Sorry, lurkers - entry is restricted to those who are permitted to post on the SDMB, be they Guests, Members, Charter Members, Mods, Admins or other interesting titles.

At the end of the Sweatshop, an Anthology thread with a poll is started, in which readers are encouraged to vote for their favourite poem. At the close of the poll, the poet with the most votes is acclaimed Poet Laureate of the SDMB. Past Poets Laureate are** tracy jo, Maserschmidt, The Hamster King, Pandoranoid, Maserschmidt, Elendil’s Heir** and ** mauxlicious**

I would like to begin this month’s Poetry Sweatshop on Friday, June 25th at 9 AM EDT, and close on Sunday, June 27th at 9 PM EDT.

Since the April sweatshop, we have used a multiple choice poll, and I’ve been very pleased with the results. Unless there are any strenuous objections, I’d like to keep the poll multiple choice.

And, of course, if there are any logistical considerations, this is the place to bring them up. I’m hoping lots of you can find a spare hour sometime this weekend.

Best wishes,
Le Ministre de l’au-delà

I’ve just sent e-mails and PMs out to the frequent contributors, and I wanted to give this a bump to attract the attention of any Dopers out there who’ve never participated. It’s great fun!

I look forward to it. Thanks again, Ministre, for administering it!

This time, I’m participating. No ifs, ands, or buts!!

But what if you need those words for rhyming?

Work around it!

Then I’m not the poet I thought I was.

Excited as always. I’ll try to convince some others I know to give it a try… the more the merrier!

The vacation auto-responder is set - interested poets should send an e-mail (please mention your SDMB username - it makes it easier for me.) to sdmbpoetrysweatshop at gmail dot com . You will then receive the following message -

And now, I have to run and write mine…

bumping for more participation!

My submission is in. I hope that it’s in - grrr - damn copy & paste function.

It is. Outstanding work!

And a poem from Shot From Guns makes three! Well done!

In Winnipeg - I just received your poem as well. Great job!

There’s still room for more…

And I got home to find ** Cuckoorex**’ poem had arrived. Excellent work.

I awoke after a disturbing night here in Toronto (me and mine are all safe and sound, lest I alarm anyone!) to find fresh poetry from Elendil’s Heir, HardlySanguine and ** BarkingDog**. Thank you all for sharing the power of creativity at a time when I needed its reassurance.

What happened? Anything we can do to help?

Thank you very much for the offer but no, there is nothing to be done.

Toronto is hosting the G20 summit this weekend, and yesterday’s peaceful demonstration turned quite ugly. (Toronto Star Photo Blog. Pit Thread on the G20 Summit.) Those of us here in the city have been talking about nothing else for the last 24 hours as many friends and family of friends were downtown for various reasons. As I say, my family and I were all right (I played guitar and sang in an impromptu band with 3 friends at a backyard party for a friend’s 50th birthday in the afternoon, then my daughter had 4 friends sleep over for her belated birthday party.), but it was a rough night. I don’t think they ugliness came much closer than a mile away, but every siren or firework heard in the distance in the night had me up and at the window.

And then there was the giggling from the basement until 3 AM, which made me hope and fear in strange alternation.

The Anthology Thread is up and running.

The words for this month are -

Transaction
Destiny
Spite

Come see what the poets have done with them.
