Flying water tankers. Must act quickly!
That’s what I’m saying: why the fuck isn’t anyone ever calling Trump out on his bullshit? Or at least, why does it feel that way?
They are. (Or at least they have been – apparently the following hasn’t been updated since June 7, 2019.)
In 869 days, President Trump has made 10,796 false or misleading claims
Story here from late April 2019.
Another story from June 2019.
That’s calling out his bullshit, I want someone to call Trump out on his bullshit. To his face. Preferably while the cameras are rolling.
George Stephanopolous came close in his interview a couple of times, but he never pressed on any of it (prolly because he didn’t want Trump to just end the interview, a reasonable fear for a high-priced journalist). I want to see someone who decides the truth is more important than what might happen to their career.
What do you think will be the result of that?
I think nothing.
Presenting the untruthfulness of Trump through objective reporting stands on its own merits. Even Trump supporters know that he’s a liar. Many just don’t care. A journalist doesn’t have to get in Trump’s face for the people to know that Trump is lying.
To quoteone of my literary heroes :
I’m all for arguing and principles – just look how often I argue over petty stuff on this board – but I don’t see a journalist’s role as being what is described in that lovely stanza.
Forget about the damn Teleprompter or Teleprompter operator!
What about the official text of the speech? Was it provided to the press before the event? Or has the WH provided a copy since the event showing what he was supposed to have said?
Even though I believe it was normal for previous administrations, I daresay this WH never does this, since it would highlight how often and how badly Trump goes off script.
The teleprompter operator could tell you if what he said was in the written speech.
Obviously, but as others have suggested, it’s unlikely he/she will be free to speak, even if identified. But this should come from the WH, not a technician.
Why aren’t the media pressing the WH for the text? What has the WH said about the airport claim?
I’ll agree with you that the media should fucking do their jobs.
what’s a journalist’s job (and/or fruitless quest), if not spreading the factual truth and holding powerful feet to fires ?
Selling ad spots.
I mean yes, obviously, but also that’s super depressing so I’m deliberately choosing to ignore it.
Confronting Trump doesn’t hold any feet to any fires. He gets off on doubling down on his lies and his supporters already know and don’t care. The Senate is prime evidence that even people who know better don’t care.
In the meanwhile, the fact checking still gets done without, the admittedly cathartic, Hollywood style showdown in which, magically, the bad guy isn’t miraculously vanquished by the quick thinking reporter with just the right magic words to trip up the inept, corrupt dastardly villain.
I’ll admit the drama factor would be awesome, but the actual work is getting done. Just not in the confrontational format we all love and come to expect from way too many movies and TV shows.
BINGO!
What kind of cigar do you want? I have Cuban, Guatemalan, Chocolate, and Bubblegum.
Your prime evidence slip is showing. Where’s the evidence that people in the Senate actually DO “know better?” The fact that they were put into place with the votes of VOTERS who “know better?” We’ll need some evidence that those voters “know better.”
It could turn out to be [someone who] “knows better” all the way down…
*maybe we’ll finally reach a bottom, where we rely on the fact that the Consumer Price Index has no line item for service providers whose sole function is “reminding people to breathe.”
I provided some information to a couple of media outlets; have to wait and see if a story comes up.
