Didn’t they use inflatable decoy tanks in England to fool the Germans before D-Day?
Perfect solution–place some inflatable Sherman tanks around the Mall. Don’t have to worry about road damage and they’d be just as substantive as Trump himself. A perfect symbol for Trump’s 4th of July farce.
I am getting the fuck out of DC this weekend. It is going to be filled with mouth breathing MAGA hat wearing losers with their cell phones clipped on their belt and who are terrified of black people and parallel parking, in that order.
The weight is a bigger deal if it’s driving. Trailered it can go some places that the tank itself would damage because it spreads the weight out over the longer wheelbase. This looks a lot like setting up a static display. Even that cite references display which is significantly different than driving them around.
Didn’t Trump already say he didn’t care? Oh, that was the First lolsday. But I swear there was something last year when he was wanting tanks and the DC Transpo people and (probably) the military told him why it was not a good thing to do.
Hundreds of great reader’s comments following the NY Times article. Here’s just one:
“This sounds like an event that could lead to a crippling bone spur flare up. I hope Walter Reed keeps a triage team on site, or we could be rendered temporarily leaderless.”
One, this isn’t about Trump celebrating America. The only things Trump seems to care about in life are himself, money, staying out of jail, and Ivanka (and that can really be distilled down to himself and Ivanka). It’s about using a national holiday (arguably, our most important) as political propaganda theatre about himself while claiming it’s “for honoring the troops”. He’s just really envious that other world leaders get to do this. But the military itself has basically said we don’t need to show off.
Two, Gingrich and other Republicans and media like Fox commentators would be having apoplectic strokes if Obama or Clinton wanted to do this: “How dare the President use our military as a political prop!!!”
Three, “Who cares?” about the cost? A cost that is entirely unnecessary? Just to appease Trump’s vanity? Here, I thought Republicans were supposed to be against wasteful spending. Deep down, I suspect Gingrich and other conservatives who no longer commute in DC will take some satisfaction in the headache repairing the streets will cause to the locals.
