So a friend of mine won tickets to go to a Q & A with Matt Groening.
We got Goodie bags full with simpsons goodies and watched the first 10 minutes of the film!
I was a little concerned about how it was going to translate as a film but the bits I saw were excellent.
Considering the audience of 150 was about 2/3 press everyone was falling about with laughter!
I dont want to spoil anything but it was brilliant.
I will definately be going to see this when it is released.
How does what you saw of the film compare with recent episodes? Or was there too little to tell?
It was really good.
Matt said they had a lot of the old writers back for the film and you could really tell.
I’d say, from what I saw, its as good as about 5 years ago.
Better than the most recent season by far.
It hits the ground running, I laughed for prob 9 of the 10 mins I saw!
There is a chance of course it gets bad but i doubt it.
Also there is a BIG celebrity voice but they wouldnt say who.
So season 14 is the type humor, with such “classics” as Homer going to rock camp with the Rolling Stones, and Moe bonding with Maggie?
Not very encouraging.
Based on Simpsons history, I’ll guess Michael Jackson.
No, it’s Dustin Hoffman! They don’t use his real name, but you can tell it’s him.
Did you have to sign a nondisclosure agreement? What sort of stuff did you get? Plush toys?
Come on, the rock camp episode was classic! Mick and Keith, Elvis Costello, Tom Petty, Lenny Kravitz and Brian Setzer as counselors. Now THAT is a fantasy camp!
[Homer] Spoil, damn you! Spoil! [/Homer]
I was unsure at first… but the recent trailer that had “Spider pig” had me rolling so I will definately be there.
Two episode that I think are quite fucking great thank you very much.
Didnt have to sign anything, but I wouldnt feel right spoiling it.
It was the first 10 minutes, but hit the ground running!
I got a bag full of Simpsons Movie merchandise watches, cups, doughnuts, popcorn, Duff beer, Notepads etc. Not bad considering we entered for free on the web.
It was at the Odean Leicester Square, London. It was mostly press, but it was a great atmosphere!
I may have misinformed about how good it was, I havent really seen the most recent 2 seasons. The film was as good as I’ve seen on the TV.
You could tell the time that had been spent on it. It was quick but not rushed, jokes (slapstick action too) were allowed to have a few more seconds to develop.
There was a sence of: give the audience what they expect then double cross them.
If Homer is having a hammer fight on the roof you expect him to fall off!
Do not read this if you dont want the film to be spoiled (opening 10 mins at least)
So many funny bits but the 3 that stick with me are:
-
Homer on the roof nailing new slates on. His thumb is covering the top of the nail, he lines up 2 or 3 times then sticks the hammer in his eye. Funnier if you see it.
-
Bart naked skateboarding thru Springfield, his private partas being covered by random things all the way. The know the routine its been done before, think Austin Powers, a frizbee, a dog, just happens to be protecting his modesty. Then he goes past a bush covering his head and legs but not his ‘manhood’.
That brought the house down!
-
Ralph Wigam seeing Barts naking skateboard and saying “I like men now”
There are more but as I said, these are the ones that stick with me.
