Mod, I don’t know how I screwed up, but this showed up as a reply in the “Say up the screwing” thread, instead of a new thread. Can you fix it?
Leaffan was kind enough to send me a PM, noting that I have not posted that much lately.
I think, as I am 85, he was wondering if I was still among the living. Well, I am. Barely.
For many years I got my daily fix by browsing through GQ, IMHO and here. So much great knowledge, wisdom and humor.
My stupid back is acting up again, so it has not been possible for me to sit at the computer long enough to more than glance through GP, and now and then ask a question that Google could not. Of course, I always got answers, some even being correct.
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving, and those of you who were nutty to go out shopping, I trust you lived to tell the tale.
In fact, as long as I am blathering along, how about everybody recounting their shopping experiences on Black Friday. Why anybody would go out and shop that day is beyond me, but there you have it.
Me, I only go shopping anytime if my wife sedates me and then drags me out.
I’m with you. I love internet shopping. I guess the genetic line that lead to a joy of hunting and gathering in my family’s wimmenfolk will die out with my mom, 'cause I sure didn’t get it!
Glad to hear you’re doing well. Sorry to hear your back is bothersome. Stupid bipedalism. If it weren’t for this awesome opposable thumb we got in the deal, I’d say we shoulda stayed in the trees. But then we probably wouldn’t have internet shopping, so I’d have to go out and hunt and gather. Bah.
Glad you’re still alive. It would be kinda creepy if you were posting from beyond the grave.
As for Black Friday, I had to go to the pet store for dog food. I was less than thrilled at the prospect, as the pet store is near the mall, and I was expecting mass chaos. As it turns out, either Black Friday was a flop here, or it was all over by noon, when I went up there. No hassles, and the doggies have their rations once again.
I didn’t do any shopping on Black Friday because I had to work but I’m happy to see you posting again. You’ve been a great poster here and I hope your back starts feeling better soon. Or that Santa brings you an iPad or something for Christmas so you can browse the board laying down.
Went to the shooting range to reinstate my membership.
Went to Sears (which is closing here) to buy a new tool box and some tools.
Went to Home Depot to look for a new light fixture.
Went to Lowe’s to look for a new light fixture.
Went to Home Depot to buy a new light fixture.
Went to REI to get some cash. (Cashed out my $170 dividend.)
Got a haircut.
Went to Fred Meyer to get trash bags.
Went home and tried to install the new light fixture.
Went to the hardware store to buy longer screws than came with the light fixture.
Went to the Haynes outlet for some underwear and socks.
Went home and tried to install the new light fixture.
Went to the hardware store to buy screws that fit.
Went home and installed the new light fixture.
Note: It’s 25 miles into town, so Items 2 through 9 included a 50-mile round trip. Crowds were no greater than normal, and – this never happens – the stylists were all sitting around with no customers when I went for my haircut. No waiting!
Yup, they keep moseying by frequently. Love to see them, but after a while, I stopped taking pictures of them.
A few months ago a mama bobcat (bobbiecat?) came by with two little cubs. These guys were as frisky as could be, chasing each other all over and even up and down a big mesquite tree. Like greased lightening. So fast, was not able to get any good pics. Hilarious.
I’m hoping to get a full spinal transplant. Or even a full-body transplant.
I went out only in that I shopped on that day - it was in the afternoon, and in a relatively uncrowded store I picked up an on-sale turkey, some lights for decorating the house, and Christmas cards. So I think that barely counts.
That is the best news that I have heard all day although it is still early here.
I didn’t leave the house on Black Friday except to walk the dog. Last year was a bit of a situation. I ordered a new DVD player because I wanted one that was internet enabled so that I could watch Netflix streaming on my TV. I ordered it in early November but it was on back order and the day that it was to arrive was Black Friday. The dude at Best Buy and I had a chuckle over that and he told me just to show up after 2pm because things will have died down by then. He assured me that the place was a ghost town by then the previous year. Sadly, he was mistaken. It was still a madhouse. I should have just gone back home but I waited it out and it took oven an hour for them to get to me and then find my DVD player in the back.
Hi Geoff! I had no idea you were 85 - wow - go you!
I’ve never shopped on Black Friday and never will.
On Saturday we ate and shopped LOCAL, no national chains. I always try to support local businesses, and it helps that I live in a very walk-friendly neighborhood where we can dine, shop, get a haircut, buy pet food, grocery shop, go to the liquor store, and more, all within a couple of blocks walking-distance.
Happy Holidays to you and yours!
P.S. Get an iPad so you can browse the Internet without sitting at a desk!
