Nice rephrase but that isn’t what it’s about at all. If you had any sort of reading comprehension, you would see that it’s about the inordinate amount of threads on the same topic, not that anyone dares to “post on my message board”. There is no point whatsoever in having that many concurrent threads about the same issue with each one muscling out other, more diverse, OPs that would most likely generate just as much, if not more, conversation.
**TVeblen **'s post about people pissing and moaning because their precious OPs have been locked or merged with others just further drives home the point that people are doing this for the attention just as much, if not moreso, than actually informing any interested parties that they’re departing.
Actually, GQ is pretty much bereft of that sort of whiney tripe. There’s Ed Zotti’s spam at the top of the page, and DrDoom has got some characteristically lame question about online fees, but that’s it.

I was too chickenshit to start this thread (because, really, I hate confrontation), but most of the posts here echo my sentiments. It’s lame. If there was one “Who’s Staying?” and one “Who’s Going?” thread in MPSIMS, and one “Who’s just pissed about the whole thing?” thread here in the Pit, I wouldn’t care. But a thousand threads in every forum (and I do exaggerate) is a bit much and, like aesiron said, it bumps other threads off the first page.

Wow, for once I agree with Diane. All of the hoopla over 5 measley bucks for a YEAR’s worth of entertainment is beyond pathetic.
For those who have a genuine (although I, who am dirt freaking poor myself, have a hard time believing someone can’t cough up 5 bucks for an entire year) issue, fine. Hem and haw for awhile. Debate and justify.

These same people won’t think twice about spending 10 bucks for two hours of entertainment at the movies. Yet 5 bucks for a year of entertainment is unconcsionable. Yet we’ve seen no pit threads from you pitting this same phenomenon regarding, oh, gay rights threads, partisan idiocy threads, middle east threads, abortion threads, religion threads … just this one phenomenon. Within the past day or so we’ve had no less than three threads about Dayton, TN passing a “no homosexuals allowed” law, yet no pit thread from you regarding the plethora there.
Re: lots of threads, let’s take a hypothetical. Let’s say Joe Random User, who’s never posted before, just registered today, sees the sticky and starts his first thread: “To pay or not…”. Some people read the thread, but it’s just someone nobody knows saying goodbye.
Let’s say now that, oh, andygirl posts there in the dead of the night saying she also will not be staying with us (speaking of which, someone really ought to get together an email list of folks with at least X posts and make sure they know about the switch to pay/post). Few people see it and it’s quickly covered up in the “last replied” column by Jane Random User saying goodbye to Joe.
Had andygirl gone directly against your wishes and posted her own goodbye thread, a hell of a lot more people would know. Yeah, there’s one more thread visible in MPSIMS, but for all we know it’s someone posting about their belly button lint smelling like cat food. We’ve seen stranger topics.
