LOL We can but hope…

Can I suggest a “Politics Only” forum? All rants, GDs, IMHOs, CS, MPSIMS, etc threads that have to do with politics would be required to be posted in the Politics forum. The rest of us could then ignore it.
Before you say “No”, think about this: if it’s this bad now, how much worse is it gonna be in 5 months or so?

In **jjimm’**s case, I can somewhat understand since he is an old timer and is obviously one of the more well known Dopers but I still fail to see why he could not have said goodbye in the aforementioned (although admittedly non-existant) consolidated thread that could have prevented this whole deluge.
Again, what relevance does this have to dozens of different posters starting dozens of different threads all on the same topic within a twenty-four hour time period? I will be losing at least two good Doper friends in addition to Dopers I enjoy reading but am not friends with to this subscription idea for the same reason as Mr. Visible and while I hate it, I am not pitting their ideals or even them because they aren’t posting fifty threads about it.
I stay away from GD (and to an extent, the Pit) for exactly those reasons. If I were to stay away from ATMB, IMHO, and MPSIMS to avoid the current issue in addition to avoiding all the religious and political clusterfucks in GD and the Pit as usual, I would be down to four fora on a board of nine. This alone would cut over half the board off from me if avoided in normal fashion so instead of doing so, I opened a Pit thread.
Then, of course, there’s the even simpler explanation that I am not **IDBB ** and I don’t bitch and complain about everything and that this particular issue has me annoyed enough to start only my second pit thread in sixteen months.
To answer your hypothetical with one of my own; what do you imagine would happen if the dozens of Dopers that posted that they’re leaving in consolidated threads instead of in OPs all decided they needed their own thread instead? Both have about as much relevance to what really happened.
To be less snarky though, If you’ll read up a bit further, you’ll see that I’ve mentioned a consolidated thread that Dopers could use to say their goodbyes and I fail to see how that isn’t a good idea. It allows everyone to say their goodbyes without the problem in your hypothetical, give out any contact info if they need or want to, and gets rid of all the threads that’re annoying other posters in addition to me.
If you have an issue with the way the board is run, fine. Bitch about here in the Pit or leave after leaving a message in a(n admittedly non-existant) thread where anyone who may want to contact you can find the appropiate information.
You, of course, realize the irony in this post don’t you?
Why are people ragging so much on others about how it’s ‘only five dollars’?
It’s not like all of us who have qualms about the subscription fee are bitching about the amount of money that it is, or that we all think that five dollars is so freaking expensive.
My concern is that for the entire time I’ve been here, I’ve said exactly what I think about everything I’ve posted on. Some of those opinions if attached to my real name could make my life extremely difficult at work, with my family, etc.
Thankfully some nice Dopers have said I can send them cash and a password and they’ll subscribe me so that I can maintain the anonymity that makes this place so damn useful to me.
But c’mon, those of you who look smugly down your noses and say ‘quit whining, it’s just five bucks.’ Anonymity is worth a lot more than five dollars, and giving it up is not freaking easy. If there were no Dopers willing to help me preserve mine here, I’d be leaving too.
LOL ya think?
Given that one of the chronic gripes on this board is the shortage of bandwidth, yes, it is a hell of a burden to scroll past all the threads.
Oh, and since this is the Pit, get a clue, assburger.

Just wondering why this thread is still going and mine was shut down.
I posted Admin’s Attitude Towards People Who Can’t Afford $5 this morning. It was shut down ten minutes later. Czarcasm said I should have posted it in Please place all SDMB subscription complaints in this thread, you cheapskates!.
I did. Unfortunately, it’s been lost in the shuffle. It would have done quite well on its own. The frustrating part is this thread wasn’t about the subscriptions. It was about the Administrator’s attitude towards those who said they can’t pay.
Isn’t that what the Pit is for?
How can I keep it private when I don’t know who needs to be sponsored, who wants it, etc? I put it out there that I’ll help someone or someones, all they have to do is contact me. How is that arrogant? Yes, I’m an over 1000 post member, but I’m not in private communication with anyone from SDMB, so I don’t know who needs what. I really don’t see what you have to be annoyed about here. People are trying to be nice and help each other out. Geez.
Casey is just being an asshole Ruby. Don’t feel bad about posting your willingness to help.
Good god, do I agree. I honestly wish they’d turn on the subscription plan now to stop some of the whining. Student? Fine. From another country? Fine. Too po’ to swing a fiver? Complain all ya want, cause being that po’ sucks. Under 18? Fine.
But jesus, the people huffing and puffing because their posts are so goddamn important are so obnoxious (and it’s usually posters I haven’t heard of/don’t remember), I kinda wish they’d turn on the subscription now, just to shut em up. Page after page of people with a way too high opinion of themselves complaining because a measly five spot will be required to post their self important drivel…
How about the song “Should I Stay Or Should I Go?” by the Clash. That would almost guarantee you a spot in CS.
For $5 I’m staying. Hell thats pretty cheap compared to how I’ve spent my money in the past. They let me post shit like that and somebody reads it to boot? I should have given them $5 a long time ago.
I don’t understand.
How are you any less anonymous because of subscription? Presumably the only people who would know your name would be those processing payment. Are they going to publicly publish a list or something? This might be a silly question, but honestly, I’m confused.
Is there such a thing as a non-masturbatory wankfest?
Right now, nobody who runs this forum has my real name or any actual personal information about me. The most they have is an IP address registered to someone other than me through which I post.
If I have to pay them, either by PayPal or by credit card, they get my real name, which I don’t want them to have, because I will then not be anonymous. It doesn’t matter to me if someone says ‘We won’t use this information.’ Once they have it, it can be gotten, it’s linked, and it’s too late.
I don’t think so. Then it wouldn’t be a wankfest.
exactly
That part is fine, and as I said, very generous of you. The arrogance is when, it seems, other posters who are being similarly benevolent are dislocating their shoulders patting themselves on the back by repeatedly referencing how many people they are sponsoring. A simple post announcing you are willing to sponsor undecided or unwilling-to-pay Dopers is sufficient, the number is entirely up to you. Your contact info is available (at least it should be) for those willing to take you up on your offer, and it should remain off the boards from that point forward.
Where’s that smilie that blows kisses?
He could have. For that matter, rather than starting this thread (which is taking up bandwidth, and if people don’t want to read it they have to scroll past it), you could have simply been silent.
But if you hadn’t started this thread, people wouldn’t have seen your thoughts. If jjimm hadn’t started his own thread, some of us wouldn’t have seen it his post. Even for someone who reads hundreds (at least) of MPSIMS posts a day, I miss a hell of a lot.
None. It’s a good thing, then, that this objection wasn’t based on that at all (which is why I pointedly based it on something else). Again, let me point out the part in your OP which I was commenting on:
You emphasized the fact that it was marginal and only five dollars. I pointed out (twice, and now for a third time) that to some people it isn’t an issue of how much but that it’s anything at all. If you’re wondering about the relevance of the point of money being an issue, I point you toward your own OP.
OK. My point remains that for some people (as you are obviously aware), it isn’t an issue of how much money they’re being charged but that they’re being charged at all. Again, if you’re wondering what relevance this has to the matter at hand, ask yourself, because you brought up the issue of there being money involved in the first place.
It’s taken this long for “multiple threads on one subject” to annoy you enough to start a pit thread? Man, you have WAY WAY more patience than I do (though, to my “credit”, I haven’t yet pitted “too many threads on Topic X! All is lost! All is lost!”:D).
Then we’d be painfully aware of who was leaving and who was staying. And, my guess, we’d have some sort of official pronouncement from the PTB to the effect of an “I am staying/leaving” sticky or “Please keep all your staying/leaving posts to one thread”.
Your main contention with my OP seems to be with a twelve word phrase that was intended as nothing more than a throwaway line and everything else we’ve rehashed is going to continue to be rehashed if we contiunue this because neither of us seems willing to budge on our ideas in concern to percieved overkill. Truce?
Eh, in case you’re curious, I read maybe once a week. Haven’t decided if I’m going to pony up or not, I’m leaning towards no.
