I’m not fat, it’s burger retention.
And I’m not elitist. It’s booger retention.
Just to show there’s real diversity out there in SD land…
Do you have any idea how much I’m looking forward to this?
I have a cat named Booger that I don’t want to retain…
Yes, but that was back in my college days.
I’m finally back in touch with my Cranky side and the boards are as slow as a colon after a sausage tasting. Goddamnit, leave already so I can be crabby without delays.
Dude, I’d pay $5 to keep you around. Your advice on keeping a baby happy on an overseas flight is worth four times that.
Seriously. Email me and its done.
Thanks for the offer Cranky, but I already sold a kidney and did the visa thing. It’s probably just after work hours and no one to process my order before a new work day tomorrow.
What about the song " Don’t go away mad, just go away."
Maybe its not a song, maybe just a line in a song - but it may seem to fit this situation.
What? People here post just to get attention??? No!!! I would have never thought that could be the case!!!
Seriously though, people really are going batshit over 5 bucks. Sheesh, calm down people, it’s just a message board. It’s not like, real life or anything.
Actually, as iampunha has pointed out at least three times, for many people it’s not about the 5 bucks - it’s the idea of pay versus not pay. That’s all. People are entitled to feel a conscience stab if they want; they don’t, however, need to bray to the rest of us that they’re not sticking around on a so-called principle, a crisis of conscience.
If you wish to leave, leave; people aren’t going to think less of you simply because you’re not here. They may, however, think quite a bit less of you if you make a big deal out of leaving. I think that’s what’s rankling some.
And by that same token, if you wish to stay, pony up the cash and stay, but don’t go on and on about how you Paid to Be Here. No one cares. That “Charter Member” title is nothing more than an empty accolade. (And how one ca
[Due to my own fumbly fingers, I hit Submit a wee early.]
As iampunha has pointed out at least three times, for many people it’s not an issue of the amount but rather of pay versus not pay, nothing more. To them, it’s a principled stand. I admire people with principles, but I don’t particularly admire people who make a big deal out of having them.
If you wish to leave, then leave. There’s no need to explain to everyone why you’re leaving. There’s no need to cause a scene. No one cares. We wish you well, but we don’t need to hear you take some kind of so-called moral stand. People won’t think less of you merely because you’re not here; they may, however, think much less of you if you cause a big stink over your own leaving, if you carp about having to pay or some other conscience nonsense.
By the same token, if you wish to remain, pony up the $5 and remain - but please don’t make a big deal out of the fact that You Paid for Something. We don’t care.
I admire people with principles, but I don’t particularly admire those people who take a principled stand for no other reason than to show everyone how morally superior they are.
In short, if you feel you cannot (for whatever reason) pay to stay, then I wish you well. Perhaps we’ll run into one another elsewhere, like the UnaBoard, Fathom, or LJ, and perhaps not. But please realize that whining about the subscription situation - and whining about those who whine about those who whine about that situation - serves no positive purpose that I can see.
I’ve found that the entitlement philosophy of the 1960s was challenged by the public response to runaway health care costs. With public opinion firmly against higher costs, employers & the government began efforts to control costs: Shift to more restrictive managed care plans. Shift financial risk to patients & providers.Enter utilization management programs. Payers begin using outcome measurement to select/ restrict providers. These, combined with the death of the ideals of entitlement philosphies in other areas, will remain our status quo until radical changes are made.
I think I just got five dollars worth of satisfaction out of this turn of phrase.
I agree with the OP. Dispense with the drama and just maintain a dignified silence. You all know you’re just going to lurk and eventually come back anyway.
Yeah, but you can READ without PAYING. Did you get $5 worth of satisfaction out of telling her that you were given satisfaction by that turn of phrase? Did you? DID YOU?
Sheesh…get the sex for free and then pay for saying ‘thank you.’ What kind of a john ARE YOU?
And by saying ‘thank you,’ you’re PAYING to GIVE THE CHICAGO READER YOUR CONTENT. Are you blind? That’s no way to do business!
If I could find a way to make the Reader take my agitated, rather than my content, I’d be in in a heartbeat.
Oh wait - paid already. MAN AM I A SUCKER.
Note: this post is (almost) wholly satirical and should be taken at face value by (almost) no one. If (generic) you would like you be offended, you are allowed to be, and with my blessings.
I’m only posting here so Hamadryad doesn’t feel she killed the thread. And I want some of those sausages Cranky was talking about!
Did anyone else notice that assuage is an anagram of sausage?
