Just one more reason why firefighters are awesome.

The gym where we work out is very close to a local fire station. The firefighters are in the gym quite often to work out and they are a nice, friendly bunch of guys and girls.

The other day, my son (14) was in the gym doing his workout. He stepped away from his bench to switch weights, leaving his towel on it and when he turned around a couple of local high school guys that were working out next to him grabbed the bench. He told them he was still using it and they two older boys responded with a, “Sucks for you”.

At that point, one of the firefighters that was nearby and saw the exchange came over and said, “Hey. Give the kid back his bench.”

The two of them were all, “Oh sorry. We didn’t know.” And fucked right off.

So thank you firefighters from Station 151. I’d love to buy you a round. Perhaps I’ll drop by the firestation with some doughnuts or something. But doughnuts are so cliche. What would be better than doughnuts?

Scones or some sort of fruit-laden mini danishes would make a good cookie replacement… Sweet story. :>

With all the Fire-Fighters I know? A carton of cigarettes : P

But since that is a healthy atmosphere that the exchange took place; perhaps an edible arrangement? Or is that a bit too dainty?

“Dainty” depends on how much you spend. My new next-door neighbors recently received an Edible Arrangement; they weren’t home at the time, so the delivery guy left it with us. It was massive, probably ten pounds, and we had to take a shelf out of our fridge to be able to get it in there.

If you’re not looking to spend $80, then maybe just a simple basket of fresh fruit.

Edible arrangement sounds a bit precious. But a large basket of fruit… not a bad idea.

How about a couple of trays of BBQ with all the fixin’s and a few gallons of tea?

A box of steaks.

Case of beer for after their shift.

More doughnuts!

Beer and doughnuts!!

<Homer Simpson> Mmmmmmm… </HS>

Most firefighters (myself included) are very well fed… Food and treats are always appreciated, but for me, sending a letter to the captain of the station (or just to city hall) including your story will be much more meaningful for us.

and good job to my fellow bro’s… keeping the public safe (and happy)…

Oh, yeah, a letter to their chief – and I would CC the city hall, rather than choose either/or – goes a long way. Everyone loves to complain, so you rarely hear the “good” stories like this one.

A letter to the station chief and city hall?.. No problem. Happy to do that as well.

Just to City Hall with attention to the Fire Chief should do the trick…

An accountant or an engineer or a garbage man wouldn’t have done the same thing?

“Quality Assurance Auditor sticks up for 14 year old!”

I guess it doesn’t have the same ring to it.

Yeah, you never hear someone in a panic shouting, “Oh My God! Someone call the Planning Division!”

Maybe. But that’s not who stepped up in this case, is it now?

Another “firefighters are wonderful people” story, this one involving a kitten.

I had to read this three times, thinking “BUT THEY WERE HIGH SCHOOLERS!”, before realizing "oh, fucked right off = they left immediately.
