The gym where we work out is very close to a local fire station. The firefighters are in the gym quite often to work out and they are a nice, friendly bunch of guys and girls.
The other day, my son (14) was in the gym doing his workout. He stepped away from his bench to switch weights, leaving his towel on it and when he turned around a couple of local high school guys that were working out next to him grabbed the bench. He told them he was still using it and they two older boys responded with a, “Sucks for you”.
At that point, one of the firefighters that was nearby and saw the exchange came over and said, “Hey. Give the kid back his bench.”
The two of them were all, “Oh sorry. We didn’t know.” And fucked right off.
So thank you firefighters from Station 151. I’d love to buy you a round. Perhaps I’ll drop by the firestation with some doughnuts or something. But doughnuts are so cliche. What would be better than doughnuts?
“Dainty” depends on how much you spend. My new next-door neighbors recently received an Edible Arrangement; they weren’t home at the time, so the delivery guy left it with us. It was massive, probably ten pounds, and we had to take a shelf out of our fridge to be able to get it in there.
If you’re not looking to spend $80, then maybe just a simple basket of fresh fruit.
Most firefighters (myself included) are very well fed… Food and treats are always appreciated, but for me, sending a letter to the captain of the station (or just to city hall) including your story will be much more meaningful for us.
and good job to my fellow bro’s… keeping the public safe (and happy)…
Oh, yeah, a letter to their chief – and I would CC the city hall, rather than choose either/or – goes a long way. Everyone loves to complain, so you rarely hear the “good” stories like this one.
