It’s become somewhat regular on the boards for a poster to say “Just one more reason I’m glad I’m X” in a place where it really bothers me, and usually it’s in a thread that has nothing to do with X at all.
For example, a thread about religion, guns, medicine or politics in America can usually be counted on to include a post saying “Just one more reason I’m glad I’m not an American.”
A political thread centered around shady Republican activities is bound to have “Just one more reason I’m glad I’m a Democrat.” A thread on shady Democratic activities is bound to have the opposite.
I wonder if the day will soon come when someone will post “Just one more reason I’m glad I’m straight” in a thread relating experiences of being gay, or someone will post “Just one more reason I’m glad I’m gay” when a heterosexual person does something offensive.
Now, to the moral of the story, and I’m most likely guilty of this at one time or another as well.
I’m very happy you’re proud to be what you are, and that’s not sarcasm. I’m proud to be what I am, too, despite the fact that there are some things I’d love to change. (I’m proud to be an American, but I’m not proud of the past few years of this country.) I in no way want to detract from anyone’s pride, but I do ask for a little bit of thoughtfulness in what and where we post.
Thanks.
