…and I’m going to start a new thread for discussion of the linked thread and others like it that tend to hang around in our memories long after the last post has gone up.

…I’d like to continue discussion of the thread that Earl Snake-Hips Tucker started back in 2007 (as opposed to tacking on to what might be deemed a zombie) but also to provide a space for observations of this same sort that you may have been provoked to share (but didn’t) at some point in the past.
In that old thread (in this post ) I said

I have tried in vain to locate at least one of the old threads where this phrase was batted around. My vanity search only goes back to March 2006, so (unless I didn’t post it it) they must be older than that. I was hoping to compare the comments there with the facts and see whose guess was closest.
I nominate Earl Snake-Hips Tucker for a place in the SDMB Hall of Fame for helping to fight ignorance in stellar fashion.
There’s a recent thread about how to become an “internet legend.” I think this find is an honorable way to do that very thing.

Just to summarize what I’m taking from this thread and Earl Snake-Hips Tucker’s amazing find, I’m almost positive I never saw the episode in the clip. I may have seen an episode of Burke’s Law (and thus maybe this episode) but I am as nearly certain that I saw or heard this bit elsewhere.
I’m led to conclude that wherever the bit originated, and I can accept that it may not be the one Earl Snake-Hips Tucker has located, it most likely has been reused any number of times in any number of settings. The specifics of where each of us who remember it actually saw or heard it can vary – and obviously do – but the fact that none of us, until now, could find the instance we saw or heard, just goes to indicate how trivial it would have been at the time we first encountered it and thus how weak the memory of it has been.
Knowing that this one case exists just goes to prove we weren’t dreaming, and that we can trust our memories to some extent. That’s the lesson that matters to me.
