I have a teacher who has made a couple of remarks that immediately made me think of our hallowed message board. The most important rule of the classroom is “don’t be a jerk” and more recently, he made the remark that anecdotes are not data (phrased a bit differently). Both of these comments made me think of you, my fellow dopers.
Are there phrases or statements you have encountered in real life that made you wonder if you were meeting a fellow Doper?
There are many, but to distill the SDMB to its purest form, I can just see the word ‘cite’ in any context, and I’m transported instantly back here.
“14 k of g in a f p d”
“1920s-style death ray”
“Once, in 1960, for 20 minutes”
“Batman, if he’s prepared”
“Plane on a treadmill”
“Woo! I am masturbating like a motherfuck!”
That’s one I hear especially often in real life.
I actually have one, though. Whenever I hear “hilarity ensues”, or really “[anything] ensues”, I can’t help mentally substituting “penis ensues”.
This was actually the first place I’d ever seen the “hilarity ensues” idea at all, so same for me. I feel the same about the single-word sentence “Cite?”

Definitely “meh.” And anytime I heard someone talking in great depth about StarTrek and all its progeny, I wonder (although I realize that that is not something restricted to the Dope).
“Cite” makes me think of both the Dope and my work, because we use it in my work A LOT!
The first place I became aware of the word “asshat” was here (specifically, in the Pit), so when I encounter it elsewhere it makes me think of the SDMB.
Quid pro quo, correlation does not imply causation, ad hominem attacks, Occam’s razor, Schrodinger’s cat, strawman, troll, recreational outrage.
The two phrases I read here and can’t wait to use myself are:
Do you get a deal on sanctimony when you buy it in bulk, or what?
Just eat the damn cherries, you fricken’ pantload.
I’ve never run across the transitive verb form “I pit” something or someone in any other context.
And many is the time I have seen some of the creative usernames introduced here in other situations and immediately thought of posts or expressions that person would be famous for in these pages. We need to collect those names somewhere, if we haven’t already.
“Metric buttload” came into my vocabulary here for the first time and I use it a lot!
It’s kinda funny. I wandered away from these boards for several years, and when I came back, all the memes are exactly the same.

Whenever I see a panhandler I like to tell myself they’re probably raising money to air condition their rabbits.
That’s the beauty of it, it doesn’t DO anything!

Though I haven’t heard it in real life and I haven’t even seen it on the Dope recently. Maybe its popularity has waned?
