I don’t believe I’ve ever contributed to any of these threads, so my 5 bucks, or whatever: I am amazed and appalled by how much attention is given to these little personal tiffs that pop up every once in a while. This one was more serious than most, in that there was a real violation of privacy combined with a hint of seriously criminal behavior, and I still can’t figure out which side I should be on, even after having read through a couple of these endless train wrecks.
But not renewing because of this incident? Well, if a person isn’t going to renew over this, and then has the vanity to draw attention to it, well, I think that says all that needs be said, and more.
I guess it would be mildly amusing if it were possible. You have to log into an account to buy time though.
No point bothering. Like Lord Ashtar, nobody cares. When the board switched to pay, staff hinted that a membership drop wouldn’t be a bad thing. No, the real money will be when they switch to some kind of pay per post- tap those 1000+/year addicts.

FWIW, I’m not renewing because I’m about to graduate and we’re ditching the internet because Adelphia sucks.

So would you believe that people are leaving/ not renewing because of the TubaDiva thing, or the fact that the Boards have become stale, repetetive and populated by the same posters shouting the same things at each other over and over again?
I realize things run in cycles on message boards, but when you’re seeing the same things over and over in ever decreasing cycles, it’s time to move on.
You have to imagine a lot of lower tier long time posters paid last time as a thank you for the free years of the Dope. Fair does. but this place has changed, and not for the better in recent times IMO. YMMV, make what you will of the place.

I totally agree with the OP. Announcing you’re not renewing makes you a complete attention whore. It’s very gauche. Leave, if you’re going to, but don’t be a drama queen about it.
A certain poster, whom I really, really like, announced he wouldn’t be renewing. He was pelted left and right with pleas to stay. It was disgusting.
Weeeeellll…I’d rather have a longtime, beloved/notorious prolific poster give some sort of brief, discreet announcement rather than just vanish. I agree that the drama queens are pretty silly, but otherwise you get months of waiting to hear from so-and-so on an issue, with posts saying “_____, can you come in and answer this question about Stegosaurs?” or whatever, and soon maybe a couple of threads saying “Has anyone heard from _____ lately?”
So I’d rather know, not at length, that a longtime poster is leaving. Just FTR.
