Just to Clear Some Things Up...

  1. As documented by Cecil, Le Petomane talked out of his ass. Except for Balaam in Numbers, he’s the only person to have conducted serious discussions using his ass. IMO, there are two too many threads with “talks from his ass” as part of the title.

  2. George W. Bush is not Evil Incarnate, though he has some real ethical problems IMO. Neither is John F. Kerry – and his problem is if the Democrats like how he’s been conducting his campaign, they should have nominated George Gallup and omitted the middleman. Threads attempting to prove one to be a saint and the other an emissary of the Devil are absolutely worthless. (I should mention, though, that I heard a great line: “The last person ever to hear God’s word coming from a Bush was Moses.”)

  3. Your opinion, especially in matters religious, does not ipso facto make it fact. You may be right – but you stand a better chance of convincing anyone else of that if you try to prove your case, instead of simply asserting it.

  4. The world is divided into two kinds of people: those prepared to allow others to live their lives in peace, and those who know better and intend to reform those fools who don’t agree with you. This is not merely religious or political; it extends to such minutiae as musical taste or choices in recreation. You know what? Those of us who are usually laissez-faire may just accept your point of view long enough to force you to give up your preferences, since you seem disinclined to allow us ours.

  5. No matter how bad your problems are, somebody’s got worse. This is particularly true when someone at a minimum wage job was somehow incompetent at providing you goods or service – everyone knows, you realize, that such jobs attract the best and brightest people, who are just thrilled at obeying insipid policies and taking flak from customers. Also when someone held you up for 30 seconds by having the temerity not to deal with driving in exactly the manner you would have preferred – perhaps you should walk, instead? There are people who have to, you know.

  6. Your firmly held convictions do not license you to decide what somebody else’s rights are, unless of course Mr. Bush likes them enough to appoint you to the Supreme Court. Since AFAIK no Dopers serve on that court, do yourself and the rest of the world a favor and don’t try to enforce them on others.

  7. It is not difficult to put yourself mentally and emotionally in the place of another. All it takes is a bit of maturity. Try it sometime. Like before your next post.

  8. While we’re on the subject, it’s quite possible to tell someone they’re flat out wrong about an issue while remaining polite and courteous to them. That isn’t difficult either. Judith Martin actually has some good pointers on doing it.

  9. Thank you for letting me vent.

That’s it!

Pit’s closed. Go home, everyone.

;j

I love these guys.

But is it possible to clear anything up without being sarcastic?

Polyrocks.

(even though he’s wrong about the Evil Incarnate stuff. Bush is in league with Satan, this is plain.)

Ah, Polycarp. A true voice of reason.

Are those similar in any way to Pop Rocks?

[sub]Knick knack polyrock give a dog a bone…[/sub]

Can I get an Amen!!!

Really, though, what if you were that one? The guy with the worst problems in the entire world? That would just suck now wouldn’t it? I think at the very least we should let him complain. Unless part of his problem is that his vocal chords were ripped out by a herd of rabid alpacas and the fingers on his typing hand fell off after he succumbed to a rare bout of scurvic leprosy.
Regardless of his ailments, though, about the only thing the guy can look forward to is not having to listen to stories that begin with “oh yeah? You think THAT’S bad…” so how about we cut him so slack and let him air his complaints?

"Rock, Rock, Pollyrock
Everybody wanna Pollyrock…. "

If even one single person gets that, I’ll be happy…

(only “cite” I could find)

You big doodyhead! :stuck_out_tongue:
Otherwise pretty solid OP. Good job. Now I’m off to shoot a motorist that holds me up in traffic.

Now, now Duffer not so much of the poopy language.

You’re not entirely wrong, but, then again, you’re not perfectly right either.

Is that polite and courteous enough?

Or am I dithering?

Hey, Zeus, how can you tell someone they’re ‘flat-out’ wrong and not be discourteous? (Was that a triple negative?)

Who the fuck is Judith Martin? Is she public domain?

Reasonable OP but then who appreciates reason around here?

Nah, it’s the solid form of polywater.

While not all are perfect, most appreciate it.

Judith Martin is Miss Manners who believes that a civil society is possible and provides assistance to those who are not sure how to achieve one.

One more thing to clear up:

The “Russian Siege Video” thread is not about a video that some Russians took of Siege and her new boyfriend.

Damn. Then that’s $19.95 I’ll never get back.

Especially true about politics as well. And, I might add, repetition does not establish a proposition.

Even when you vent, you sound reasonable. Are you sure you belong in the Pit, Poly?

Regards,
Shodan

…unless you work in the Oval Office.

You’re welcome. But did I miss something? What’s this stuff about lazy fairies?
