Just when you think you couldn't love someone more...

It grows.

My son Jake is now 13 months old, and he is my saving grace. Of all the things I’ve done in my life, he is the one perfect thing. From the moment I first laid eyes on him, my life has had purpose. The first cry shattered the stone around my heart, and turned me from being just some guy into Jake’s Dad.

When they took his footprints for the birth record, I was privelaged to have his footprints stamped upon my hand, to take out and show to my family waiting in the lounge. I’ve never walked so high above the ground, and don’t think I ever will again.

Last week, things really started clicking in his head. He’s putting together ideas now, and each time I see, I fill with pride.

His latest leap has been communication. He doesn’t talk yet, but he’s getting the ideas across. We were playing on the floor, and Jake stood up, and wobbled his way to his bedroom. A moment later I hear one of his drawers shut, and he comes toddling back out. In one hand, he has a washcloth, in the other, one of his bibs. I watched him walk over to his high chair, and start pulling at it, making “da da da da da” sounds the whole time. Jake was hungry, and told me so the best he could.

Just when you think you can’t love someone more, it grows.

Print this out. Now. Save it, put it somewhere where it cannot get thrown out. Then take it out and re-read it when he’s oh, 13 or 14. Just to remind yourself . . .

Awwwwwwwwww.

When my 14-month old wants to go outside, she first brings me her shoes. If I don’t take the hint she brings me my shoes. Who says they can’t communicate. Gotta love 'em.

That’s beautiful. And MiniCyni is a handsome little one. He looks so like you! Lets hope he takes after you. But not too much.
