Juvenile fiction about British Grand Prix racing team?

As a young teen, I read several books from my local library about the adventures of a British racing team led by a crusty old Scot, whose brogue the books tried to phonetically reproduce. It’s where I learned about accelerating out of the apex of a turn, and I think of them every time I watch Top Gear. My tries at Google searches didn’t turn up anything. Does this ring a bell (or wave a checkered flag) with any other lads of the 1960s?

The Black Tiger series, by Leonard Wibberley under the pseudonym Patrick O’Connor, comes to mind.

Yes, that’s it. Thanks! I was surprised to learn that he later wrote The Mouse That Roared.
