Kal and Washte do Dublin... Be scared... Be very very scared!

Great to meet you all last night.

I know I was full of good intentions last night to meet up again on Thursday, but the way I feel now, it is quite likely that I will be attending my first AA meeting this week. If the fates conspire in such a way that my local group happen to convene on a Thursday, I will have to take that as a sign.

Until the next time, mes amis.

Speaking of which, lets just say that 8 pints, a Taco kebab and Bacon n’ cheez fries are a lot more fun when they’re on the the way in than on the way out.

Good to meet those of yiz that I haven’t met before, and probably see some of you for a (scaled down) Thursday.

Not such a quiet night then? Sounds as though it’s just as well I didn’t make it

Kal and Washte, I do apologise but as promised I was very hungover thanks to the football results and I had to go flat-hunting. The good news is I now have my very own place to host a future DubDope in

Anyway, keep me posted on the plans for Thursday, everyone.

Here I am, a day late and a dollar short - still, thank heaven for second chances, eh? I could go out on Thursday, but it would be pure madness - flying to San Francisco very early Saturday morning, and I have to pack… Oh, what the hell, count me in.

micilin and myself bumped into the visitors last night on Grafton Street. They were on the way to meet twisty and we were on our way for a post work pint. We all when to the pub and were joined by irishgirl.

Nice to meet **Kal, Washte ** and irishgirl.

Tonight it’s the Literary Pub Crawl.

Hope that hernia is better Kal. If the two of ye would stay away from the chandeliers you wouldn’t have to worry about such injuries

We went on the Literary Pub Crawl back in Nov 2000. Great time. The two guides were great! Hope you like it; it was probably my favorite activity in Dublin.

nice to meet everybody!
pity i have to hit the books tonight.
sadly, neuroanatomy rather than something literary and fun!

have a nice time!

Okay, I was gonna post a load of stuff but I’m friggin’ knackered so that’s out.

It was a fantastic week: A beautiful city to tour in the day and good company in the evenings.

It was great to meet you all. I’ve never met a nicer group of people in my life.

Wonderful to meet you too!

You’re only saying that because I rubbed yer nipples.

Whew!
Well, we made it home safely. Had a most fantastic time!

Monday -
Caught the bus into town, and walked to the hotel. An hour or so later we finally found it. Though we were early they had out room ready. Went in and kipped a couple hours. Went out for lunch at Eddie Rockets - scrummy strawberry malts! Back to the hotel. Got ready for our first meeting of the Dublin gang. Met Twisty at Trinity gates just before 6. Mulligan’s was just up the road. Tried my first proper Guinness. VERY nice! Chicken me though stayed drinking wimpy lager - MGD. Everyone showed up except Ruadh, who went flat looking (and got one - yay!) and yojimbo who was poorly. So, we had: Twisty, Micilin, jjimm, manwithaplan, Curly Chick, and a mate of jjimm’s. Took several photos which Kal will post a link too when they are all up and ready. Didn’t do too bad… 7 1/4 pints… We were one of the last people out of the pub at 1230 am… Twisty then took us to the most delicious kebab shop. It was THE best kebab I’ve ever had - Kal’s first!

Quick! Someone post me a kebab from this place! :O)

Back to the hotel and crashed.

Tuesday -
Weeling a bit worse for wear from last night, we crawled out of bed and stumbled downstairs to attempt to eat summat. Ordered full breakfasts. I tried the white pudding and rather enjoyed it. Black pudding on the other hand almost brought up what I’d already eaten… No ta. Kal could barely get down his toast, bacon and egg. Poor fella… he! Went back to bed for a little while. Back out in search of aspirin but could only fins soluable. Kal loves the taste of aspirin, so I got him the ones that melt on the tongue, I kept looking. Walked all over hell and gone. Must have done 5-6 miles. Found some neat shops. My only question about shopping is… where the bloody hell are all the big bird shops? Where do fat chics buy their clothes? I was hoping to find some bargains… :O( Damn. Got back to the hotel early evening. Kicked back watching a bit of tellie. Couldn’t be arsed to go out again for food, so decided to order in. I had some lovely pasta with mushrooms, peas and white wine and Kal had pizza. To bed for midnight. Good day, despite the rough start.

Wednesday -
Up at a decent hour. Both ordered full brekkies again - minus black puddin. Finally talked Kal into eatin his white puddin and he liked it. Took off again walking - only about 4 miles today. Discovered St Stephens Green shopping centre. Checked out all 3 levels and found the tattoo place on the top level. The fella in there gave me the creeps and gave me weird looks when I started looking at the books with tats in, so we left. Another DAMN. Was really looking forward to getting another tat. Bought a couple Irish Fisherman’s sweaters - good bargain. Will give one to LurkMeister’s missus cos she’s has always wanted one and the price of them in the US is astronomical. Saw the Book Of Kells - WOW. The Library was absolutely spellbinding. Almost a spiritual feeling in there. Damn bunch of bloody Yanks ruined it though! Met up with irishgirl at Trinity then went to O’Neil’s. She is very nice. Tiny little thing she is! I drank 2 pints of Guinness whilst Kal got napped by some drunken fella at the bar. He chatted with him for a while and ended up drinking 3 whiskeys! Claimed he needed to get back to his wimmin and excused himself. Irishgirl went to the loo and Kal was being hit by the whiskey when the falle he was drinkin with came over and hit on me. Could not believe it. Too funny. I kindly declined the invitation to “take advantage of him in his state”… Ended up drinking with irishgirl until 6. Decided to meet up with Twisty and take him out to dinner. Went to the ATM and guess who we bumped into? Kal’s long-lost brother… Yojimbo, who was with Micilin and another fella. They dragged us to the pub (shame) and forced us to drink more. Phoned Twisty and let him know where we were. He came, we also phoned up irishgirl who joined us, so for the second time in 3 days we had another DubDope :O) Left the pub about 11 and went in search of grub. Found a Lebanese place and the fellas had pizza whilst I had a calzone. Caught a taxi back to the hotel and to bed by 130.

Thursday -
Both of us wake up hurtin. Not from the booze, but from all the walking we’ve done. Full brekkie again. Decide to take a South Coast Tour. Bus it up to the station and off we went. Down the coast then back up just inland. Stopped for lunch at the Avoca Handweavers - Kal had a delicious sarnie and I had the best tato salad I’ve ever had and some nice but funky veggie slice thing made from nuts. Tour finished about 3 so we went back to the hotel to change for our last night in Dublin. Met up with Twisty again just gone 7. Went up to the Duke for the Literary Pub Crawl. Ended up being Twisty, Hibernicus, jjimm and us doing the pub crawl. Rather fun and intertaining. Yojimbo and Micilin met up with us afterwards. Met Mic’s wife and jjimm’s missus. Did lots of chatting. Took lots more photos. Closed down the pub again. Went to McD’s with Twisty and Hibernicus. Lots more chatting. Back tot he hotel just gone 2am.

Friday -
Wow, end of the week already. Hard to believe it’s time to go home. Went down for brekkie. Back up to pack and get ready. Didn’t leave the hotel until 12. They let us leave our luggage so we could hit a few museums before leaving. Went to the Archaeology and History museum and the Natural Histlry museum. Bother were quite interesting. The specimin in the Natural History museum are quite old, and many of the furry critters had faded, were losing their fur, and the taxidermy was faltering. Quite sad really. The Archaeology museum was great. The weaponry was outstanding. Picked up our luggage just after 3 then headed back up to town. Caught the bus to the aeroport. Very short flight back - great tailwind. Back home before half 9.

Whew. What a week.

How’s that for speedy service, Tansu?

Hot red damnation, that’s speedy service alright.

I rather like “The Dublin Beard Club for Men”.

Looks like a great time alright … sorry I missed it :frowning:

So are we ruadh - The mood darkened a little on Thursday when we all found out we’d missed you. :frowning:

However, by now Twisty should have given you a can of A&W rootbeer, can of vanilla Coke and pack of Necco wafers - So the suger rush you’ll get should cheer you up.

There’s also the fact that Washte and I are not talking about if we’re gonna visit Dublin again, but when.

If I had my way (and the wonga to support the idea), I’d be flying over there once a week.

kal!
you removed the references to boobage!
he he he!
microscope
he he he!

Kal, Washte, the pleasure was at the very least mutual. Looking forward to when youse get to Dublin again.

BTW, did you take an pictures outside of a pub? And where are the Kal==Yojimbo photos?

Aye, we took a few pictures outside of a pub. I was just in a rush to get the important ones online.

I think the photo on the site is the only we’ve got of me and yojimbo (The ones we took on Wednesday were crap because the pub was too dark). I seem to recall Twisty taking a few with his fancypants phone though.

Seeing as yer here, any chance of yuz dropping either Washte or missen an email? Would be great to keep in touch outside of the boards.

Joe Duffy stole them.
