Coldie comes to Dublin. Part 2

Can’t find the original thread. Did we loose much data btw?

Anyway, his Dutchness is coming over to the fair city on the wkend of the 18th Oct. with some other clog wearers.

We were talking about how great the Southside of the city was and everyone was agreeing

The venue and date etc. had still to be set.

I’m thinking about coming over. It’ll be very grand, and I want to see Tiggsy the Tiggmaster General.

I’m not sure if I’ll be able to, and if so, will I stay at my in-laws? That seems very strange to me, being there without my husband. We’ll see, though.

Southside rulz.

(Speaking of south-north thing, have you all heard that song, popular about a year or more ago, “Going down the southside, gonna have myself a Heini…blah, blah.” ?)

I thought the date was October 18th? No?

Hope you can make it Anahita.

The 18th is no good for me as I’ve got a family wedding. I’ll be available and hungover on the 19th.

I thought we were planning around Coldy, who is coming from the 18th - 20th?

We are planning around Coldie. I’m just saying when I can’t be there

AFAIK Coldie and two of his friends are here for the wkend. Aro from the north said he may come down but no definite answer was given. Everybody else who replied to the original thread was flexible about when during the wkend.

If there was a decision made about the date I didn’t read the thread after it had been made. Was there?

Its the Northsides turn for a fest!!

Hehe, you guys act like Dublin’s the size of Tokyo or something.

I wouldn’t mind, because actually, slumming it is sometimes fun.

(I’m JOKING, Twisty, please, don’t kill me.)

Are you dissing our Megalopolis?

Of course I am not. It’s just very amusing. It’s amazing how much like a small town Dublin can be sometimes. Every time I go out with John, we end up running into someone he knew from school or uni.

I’ve been to Dublin for a total of probably 6 months or so, and I don’t think I’ve ever even been to the northside.

Well if you feel like that, we won’t let you ride on the monorail.

Twisty and Ruadh have already agreed (in the other thread) to having the night out in a pub Northside.

Oh, there’s gonna be fights…

Hey Twisty, I swear your post wasn’t there when I posted that above note.

What’s going on…?

I don’t know aro… perhaps a rift in the Space Time continum?

Are you still coming down?

Is UDS in the House? how about Irishgirl?

Any other Irishdopers or Eurodopers want to come over for this?

I’ll go check prices on Ryan scAir and let you know.

RyanArse is currently selling flights at a penny a piece. All you have to do is pay the tax. Not a bad deal, what what, even though you have to endure their appalling service.

Just to point out, that if you want to change your ticket at all with RyanAir, even to the flight one hour later, it’s 25E per person per flight. There are no refunds. Period. Read the fine print before you book.

Just for your info, in case anyone is interested, it’s approx 98E roundtrip from Beauvais to Dublin. Maybe clairobscur would consider going? I know she mentioned being interested in living in Ireland.

We were discussing northside pubs, as I recall.

The Hut was mentioned, which would be fantastic for me location-wise, but unless I’m mistaken it doesn’t have a late licence. In fact I’m not sure if anyplace around here does apart from McGowan’s, which is notoriously difficult to get into late at night, especially with a large group of people. So I was thinking maybe we should just spend the entire evening there. Anyone object?

Alternatively there’s Hanlon’s, but it’s (a) not open as late, (b) closes downstairs early (forcing you to find new seating upstairs, also not good with a lot of people) and © harder to get a taxi home from.

I’ll try to make it. As a southside born resident of the northside (even my daughter’s a northsider), I’ll do my best to referee the inevitable row.

Speaking entirely unselfishly, is Harry Byrne’s in Clontarf too far from town?

Clontarf? Oooh, hark at her.
The Hut is a reasonable old man pub, and it does lockins, but not in a reliable fashion.

Can I put in another bid for Ryan’s of Parkgate Street?
