I have to admit I’m getting very, very concerned that Trump is going to win. I haven’t been sleeping all that well lately, and I’m not a worrier by nature.
The Post has not endorsed either candidate (for some reason). The Post’s humor columnist, Alexandra Petri, however has not followed them and has endorsed Harris
Sam Harris on a recent podcast - who despises Trump with the fire of a thousand suns - noted that he finds it frustrating that Harris still doesn’t seem adequately prepared to answer questions related to how she’d be different from Joe Biden (or not, I guess) or questions in general.
I admit to a similar frustration. She’s not fantastic live, and at least some blame has to go to her handlers and strategists because you have to think an experienced lawyer knows how to put a few words together.
Anyway, as a weakness, it’s a big one. The most important thing in a campaign is a simple, affirmative message.
And what is the answer? because Biden has done an amazing job and if she can do half as well I’d call her a fantastic president. I rather she avoid the question than outright lie.
Ffs, she’s answered questions just fine. It’s like Trump and Harris are being forced to take two different tests here. Harris has to take the LSAT and if she gets one question wrong everyone picks her apart and is like “I just don’t think she’s qualified.” But all Trump is being asked to do is draw as picture of a fucking horsey, and as long as he grabs a brown crayon and doesn’t shove it up his nose people think he’s gonna lower grocery prices.
The Post has published articles saying that all of the Post’s editors support Harris, and that they just can’t call it an endorsement because their bosses say no. Which is sort of the “I’m not touching you” of endorsements, right as the car goes over a bump and you do end up poking your brother with your finger.
Agreed. She has run as close to a flawless campaign as any other candidate in US History…and in a fraction of the time. If she loses it’s because (disturbingly, and inexplicably) nobody had any chance of beating Trump.
Surely this is missing the point. The waiter is offering you the choice of fillet steak or wet cardboard for your dinner. Replying, “well, first I need to know how your steak differs from the closed restaurant in the next town” is not the optimal process.
If she loses it is going to create a weird what-if universe where Joe Biden should have stayed in because he’s the only one who has actually beaten Trump. But take a moment to think about what a Biden campaign would look like right now. I saw an editorial recently that said Gavin Newsome should have been the nominee but if Harris can’t do it, I don’t think anyone else would have been able to either.
I still think there is zero value to this question beyond fishing for soundbites to manufacture artificial drama between Harris and Biden. She is going to do everything differently because she is a different person. End of story. But if she dares to say that out loud, the front page news will be “KAMALA HARRIS WIPES HER ASS WITH JOE BIDEN” because the world in which those two hate each other and are fighting constantly is more entertaining than the world in which they get along.
I get that, but in these days of siloed media, you really CAN target voters with your messages. Send the bros the proof that Trump is weak, and send the registered Dems who don’t always vote the proof that he’s dangerous. Also:
Yes to both of those.

I agree. Presidential races have been getting closer and closer for some time now, never getting far from the 50-50 mark. And this is not really about the candidates. It’s about the demographic divide. About half of those voting believe ardently that only the Republicans will protect their privilege, and about half believe ardently that only the Democrats can create opportunity for all.
If we survive this election as a nation that continues to have elections, we’re going to see the same phenomenon every four years for quite a while. (And if we DON’T survive as such a nation, Gavin Newsom wouldn’t have made any difference.)
No campaign is flawless. None. There was a mistake once when asked what she would have done differently from Biden. When asked again, she was prepared.
