Kamala Harris and the runup to the 2024 Presidential Election {No more on Guns}

Rick Scott desperately tried to disassociate himself from the Puerto Rico smear, presumably because there are a lot of Puerto Ricans in Florida.

There are also quite a lot in NYC too, so if this MSG rally is a play for New York, this is probably not the best messaging.

He said lots of outrageous things.

You may be right - or not - but isn’t there value to being able to answer it?

Even I know that Bad Bunny is huge. I don’t think there is any way Trump is winning Puerto Rico but there are a lot of Puerto Ricans on the mainland. They can’t be too happy today.

Mentioned in another thread: PA has a sizable Puerto Rican population. Hateful crap against them? Bad Bunny is big but being disrespected like that will motivate turnout against him there and that is significant.

Puerto Rico doesn’t get a vote in the Presidential election.

See. No way for to win it! :grinning:

LOL! Puerto Rico is having yet another non-binding referendum on election day on its status in the US – statehood, independence or “independence with free association.” Congress is under no obligation to honor the results.

Biden is still her boss, and Harris deeply respects him. They just want her to criticize hm in public, which she is unwilling to do and really shouldn’t do.

I cant remember Veeps going strong on criticizing their president while running for that job. Did Gore say bad stuff about Bill Clinton?

Yep.

I concur.

Ohmygawd. I said one of the few things trump could do that would turn his current voters against him was “using the N-word” and this is about as close as you can get.

Only in the primaries.

There are 5.6 million Puerto Ricans living in the 50 states, and a significant chunk of them live in Florida and Pennsylvania. It’ll be a challenge for him to win without PA and impossible without FL.

Trump has delivered his own October Surprise.

Sure – just pointing out that PR itself does not have any electoral votes that Presidential candidates are competing for. Obviously, Florida Republicans sense the danger, as Republican Senator Rick Scott and Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar had already denounced the comments.

Somehow I thought because the territories vote in the primaries they had some representation in the general election, like DC. Apparently I am poorly educated.

The Trump team is already saying that they don’t vet their speakers and have no control over their content. While it was “ just a comedian” it still looks bad for Trump.

He won’t condemn it. That would look weak. So he is left with it implicitly endorsed by him.

He can’t condemn it because he’s said the same thing.

Yeah, his endorsement should carry some weight with a portion of the Hispanic vote.

Heather Cox Richardson notes that it was vetted and the script was on the teleprompter.

Forgive me my incredulity here, but I thought Trump and his crew didn’t like teleprompters? Perhaps I was mistaken? /s

Edit in square brackets added by me.

No matter how many times I read anything about this person, I cannot help but read it as “Bugs Bunny.”

You’re a wrestling fan, aren’t you? When Bad Bunny competed at Wrestlemania a few years back, he got a bigger pop than most of the actual wrestlers did. Last year WWE put on their first show in Puerto Rico in decades, and Bad Bunny was the main performer they promoted for the show and a big part of why they were able to sell out the arena, and his match with Damien Priest was definitely the highlight of the night for the live crowd.

I don’t speak a lick of Spanish and I’m not into reggaeton, but it’s easy to see that he’s a Big Fuckin’ Deal.

They use teleprompters, Trump just doesn’t stay on script.

He has a wrestling tie in. Hmmmm. Not sure how that will play with that audience.
