IF Kamala were to lose [goes outside, turns around 3 times and spits] it would mean:
Fundraising doesn’t matter
Endorsements don’t matter
Ground game doesn’t matter
Character doesn’t matter
All that matters is promising to deport Mexicans.

Or enthusiasm.
On NPR’s Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, Peter Segel* just used a phrase that sums it all up nicely: “the world’s most annoying coin flip.”
(*Seigel? Who knows with these radio folks!)
If you need a ride to the polls and you live in PA, this might help you out:
Or it means “we are never going to vote for a woman.”
He’s been doing that for the last 4 years, he ain’t stopping now. Bannon may as well advise him to lie relentlessly and eat McDonalds.
I didn’t see who made this one. Was it Harris or somebody else?
Sagal.
I think Harris. The YouTube video was from the Italian-American Democratic Society or something.
And I bet they didn’t even have to fly people in from other states, lie to them about the job and pay, drive them around in the backs of moving vans, and threaten to strand them with no food or money or shelter, either!
It’s dismaying. But we have to acknowledge that when the top one percent decide to exploit tribalism, they can convince about half the population to vote against their own interests.
It helps when that top one percent has, over several years, turned “news” into a strictly tribal enterprise. Facts cannot penetrate those borders.
I think the 24 hour news networks are one of the worst things that ever happened to American society. Think what a better world this would be if we all just watched Walter Cronkite for 30 minutes each night.
You left out the Russians.
I agree with your point, but better to end with something like “they can convince about half the population to vote for the top one-percent’s interests”. We should not be like the one-percenters by telling others what we think their interests are.
No, it’s more that it may mean that sometimes it’s just not enough. Because if Kamala didn’t have better fundraising, endorsements, ground game and character, she’d probably be dead in the water instead of just having a reasonable chance to win. Demagoguery is dangerous because far too often it just works, IF you’ve got the “right” candidate. Just ask Cleon of Athens (the ‘first demagogue’). And whatever else you can say about Trump, he’s the “right” demagogue for his basket of deplorables disgruntled at the “right” time.
This, exactly. Think about how the Biden campaign was trending, and how he was falling short on at least two of the four of those dimensions. Harris was able to turn around enthusiasm among liberal voters.
If Biden doesn’t drop out, there’s a very high probability that signs would be pointing strongly to a major Trump victory next week, even with all of Trump’s strangeness, and his crappy ground game.
Harris was supposed to fly to Detroit this evening, but instead her plane went to New York City.
She will reportedly make a cameo appearance on SNL tonight.
Yep, just saw it too. I expected it or something similar for a while.

I hope she does well.
