Kamala Harris and the runup to the 2024 Presidential Election {No more on Guns}

Well, your wish was that it was broadcast often. A video on the internet is broadcast nonstop since its release.

At the moment, with 95% of the vote in, Osceola County, FL is 50% Trump to 49% Harris. Looks like they didn’t do as expected.

To those who wish to view it. i.e. the choir. It’s getting people you don’t already have that is the challenge.

When a sizeable fraction of people voted 2 weeks ago (in FL and elsewhere), the MSG fiasco was too late to affect probably 30% of the total votes cast in this election since they were cast before the event occurred.

The whole political industry, and us amateur observers, need to get used to the idea that substantial game-winning amounts of voting occur 4 or 6 weeks before the last day. My vote was 5 weeks ago. The “November surprise” needs to be scheduled for the last week of September.

But it’s the Right that gets to define politeness. Nobody cares if you bash and insult the Left, or middle; you can bash a Democrat all day long without anyone talking about the importance of politeness and decorum. It’s only when speaking to or of the Right that being deferential and dishonest in their favor suddenly becomes important.

Heck, remember how calling the Republicans as mild a term as “weird” was considered a daring, groundbreaking attack? Meanwhile, the Republicans practically froth at the mouth when talking about the Democrats, but that’s fine.

It’s because they have the media resources to make sure everyone hears about it and the martyr complex to wail loudly enough that they appear to be the victims.

Its simply a variation on the old theme that “when you are used to privilege, equality feels like oppression”.

The situation isn’t symmetrical; they don’t have to give and take. Because they’re genetically inalterably superior.

Conservatism is really a one-trick pony.

Boy, this is going to be a tough day for Kamala and Tim.

I’m very, very discouraged today. I really thought Harris had a good chance to win. Things were looking not great about midnight when I went to bed. I tossed and turned and finally got up and checked CNN early this morning, dreading what I would probably see. And there it was.

Damn damn damn.

The oddest group was the one that this is “just another election,” did not like either and did not show up.

I have a neighbor that put up a sign “Everybody Sucks 2024”. We don’t normally do political signs in our neighborhood. I don’t know whether she voted, or if so for whom.

But her sign turned out to be prophetic.

It was precisely that pervasive belief that “everyone sucks” (and sucks equally and indistinguishably) that gave trump his opening in 2016.

Seems many Americans are very slow learners.

That was indeed one of the major Propaganda items the the Kremlin was pushing.

Yes, then and now. “Government sucks, elections suck, there’s nothing you can do so you may as well check out and play video games.”

A golden oldie, beloved of all autocrats.

I agree. It’s both lazy and cowardly, not to mention deliberately obtuse.

Kamala Harris goes on stage with Beyonce and all the thousands of women and tells them Trump will ban all abortion. Nothing happened. No MAGA women were converted. Trump goes on Joe Rogan and instantly capture all young male voters. They are going to take care of women.

What’s going on? Wokism is dead? Even women failed to vote. More women voted for Biden than Harris percentage-wise.

The only thing involved above that I slightly get is that Harris does not speak the language of the young male. And black young males felt like they were voting for their mom. They would rather vore for Biden. As long as he promised and delivered something for them.

One that always stuck with me … from two decades ago:

It’s the pendulum more than anything, I tell you. Dem-Repub-Dem-Repub. Usually they switch after eight years, but currently after four. Urban-rural-urban-rural. Like clockwork. Kamala did nothing wrong, but it wasn’t her turn.

I didn’t notice anyone here at the Dope pushing those perennial Russian propaganda points (voting is uncool, voting is for old people, you must vote only for the person who courts your vote and with whom you agree on everything, etc.). Which doesn’t mean they weren’t at work out there. Fewer voters in 2024 as compared with 2020 could be mainly due to the difference COVID made–mail-in ballots sent to everyone in some states in 2020 and so on–but it could also be partly due to the same old anti-democracy messaging.

Maybe the operatives skipped us this year. As I recall, they got some pretty incisive spankings when they tried this in previous election cycles.

The biggest ‘we shouldn’t vote’ story this year was the Uncommitted Movement choice to refrain from voting for Harris/Walz. I thought that was wrong-headed, too (as it depended on the ‘don’t vote unless the candidate agrees with you on everything’ bad reasoning). But in the event the loss of those votes was overshadowed by the choices of many groups, not just that of the Uncommitted Movement.

I did see some pushing “both sides are just as bad”.

Nope.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The nation’s federal law enforcement and election security agencies debunked two new examples of Russian election disinformation on the eve of Election Day, highlighting attempts by foreign actors to sow doubt in the U.S. voting process and warning that the efforts run the risk of inciting violence against election officials.

In a joint statement late Monday, federal officials pointed to a recent article posted by Russian actors falsely claiming that U.S. officials across presidential swing states were orchestrating a plan to commit fraud, as well as a video that falsely depicted an interview with an individual claiming election fraud in Arizona.

The kremlin was very busy helping trump win.
