In this case, I think @SuntanLotion was genuinely asking for the non-Maga explanation. Wherever she gets her news, these anti-lib “tweets” (whatever they’re called nowadays) probably pop up all the time so she’s asking here. Plus she included the link, rather than saying “I heard…”, as she has been told to do. And she dislikes Trump.
The only weird inflection is that she’s saying “ya” instead of “you”.
“Ya better thank a union member for sick leave, ya better thank a union member for…”
I don’t hear any other words said in a way different than how she normally sounds.
And, yes, it’s a cadence. It might have roots in, or sound similar to, black preachers, but I certainly don’t think that Harris is being inauthentic when she adds rhythm to her words.
Is it a Detroit thing? To me it just sounds like something she made up as a generic rallying cry accent that doesn’t really correspond to any particular vernacular. And she switches right back to normal at the end.
It’s the same sort of cadence that MLK used in his speeches, and it’s not all that dissimilar from the cadence that JFK used in his. It sounds like she’s giving a speech because she is.
On a weirder and lighter note-someone’s created fake posters suggesting that the Philadelphia Eagles support Kamala. I don’t see these as having a huge effect unless you have a burning hatred of the Eagles.
It occurred to me that it’s highly likely that, during the debate, Trump will deliberately mispronounce Kamala Harris’s first name. If so, I think this is how she should react:
Harris: I’m so sorry Donald, I know my name can be tough for some people. Here’s how I taught it to my 7 year old niece – the word “comma”, then “la”. “Comma”, “la”. “Comma, la”. Kamala. Kamala. Do you want to try it Donald? Come on, you can do it. I believe in you. Kamala. You can do it!
She needs to be have a kind expression, and kind tone of voice, like she’s teaching a child, the whole time.
I would advise downplaying the treating him like a child part. We know we all want to, but on the national stage, it is better to keep one’s urges in check – for the non-orange, at least.
The Republicans are also calling her a fake for referring to herself as a “daughter of Oakland” when she grew up in Berkeley. If that’s all they have….
“Nationwide, Kamala Harris leads Donald J. Trump by three percentage points, 49 percent to 46 percent. Across the battleground states, the race is a dead heat. In every state and nationwide, the polling average is within 1.5 points of the result of the 2020 presidential election.
In short, the polls finally show the close election that analysts expected a year ago, before President Biden’s candidacy went off the rails. If anything, it’s even closer than expected: The polling averages today are closer than the final pre-election polling in any presidential election in the era of modern polling — closer than 2000, 2004 or 2012, let alone 2016 or 2020.”
