Do you seriously not understand the difference between de facto and de jour? That’s not how it works and is bordering on SovCit.
They were shouting “That’s a lie” at the point she slammed them.
Yes, I do. De jour is what the law says. De facto is what people ignore when it’s inconvenient for them, and let everyone else suddenly realize that there’s no actual law there.
Seriously, what about the Senate’s behavior over the past decade gives you the impression that “that’s the way it’s always been done” has any weight whatsoever?
Nitpick for both of you.
De jour is “of the day.” Like soup.
The legal term you seek is de jure.
Carry on.
Not it isn’t.
No he can’t.
I take all of the blame for that. Embarrassed.
That’s what I heard, too.
fuckin eh
I’m reduced to hoping that the polls are wrong.
And amusing myself by picturing Trump’s Second Inaugural Address being rehash of his rally greatest hits: Hannibal Lecter, sharks, Arnold Palmer’s dick, and picturing the reaction of the commentariat.
Then we don’t see him again until he inevitably strokes out and … Welcome President Vance.
The poll show Harris with a slight edge. Now I think it is more than that.
538 just gave Trump the edge (for the first time since Biden dropped out). Hence my depressed state.
It’s been a coin flip pretty much the entire time. 52% chance for Trump is essentially no different than 52% chance for Harris, or even 60% chance for Harris. It’s been hovering around 50/50 since Harris took over.
If the polls are mostly correct, it’s a very close race. But they may not be correct.
My GF has a red baseball cap with IIRC a Nike swoosh on it.
I asked her to stop wearing it because from any distance people will assume it’s a pro-trump hat just from the color. She was horrified once she thought about that. The hat is in deep storage now.
Some ideas work better in selfies than they do in public. See our long discussion about how conspicuously flying (or wearing) the American Flag is now mostly a Fascist virtue-signal, not a statement about devotion to the USA and its constitution.
So former Fox News host Geraldo Rivera has endorsed Harris. For some reason, this makes me feel less hopeful for a Harris victory.
You can add three points to Kamala and take three points away from Trump and the polls would still be “correct”. The polls are saying that we are somewhere in between tied and Kamala up nearly ten points. At this point that sounds fairly useless.
Nice!
No they are not. Reasonably they are saying up five or six to down one or two. If she wins by ten then the polls are by historical standards very wrong.
I heard a take on the radio yesterday while my wife was flipping stations. While the “shy Trumper” never really existed, they posited the opposite: voters shy about admitting they won’t vote for Trump this time since their entire support network has Trump support as an article of faith.
Not sure I buy it but it was a novel to me thought.
There’s good reason for the vote to be secret.
Ever see the Curb episode where Larry uses a red MAGA hat to get himself out of some situations with angry rednecks?
