Kamala Harris and the runup to the 2024 Presidential Election {No more on Guns}

Thanks for the tip. I’ve got a red Budweiser ball cap with white stitching. The stitching spells out “Budweiser,” naturally, but at a distance? To be on the safe side, I’ll put it away, and select another in a different colour.

I wonder if the Red Hat Society is trouble by this?

And lunch with Phil Rosenthal!

Incidentally, my wife and I signed up to do some GOTV shifts with a Dem office in West Michigan tonight (Holland). I hope to do at least two shifts between now and election day. I wasn’t planning on it, but dagnabbit, these fucking tight poll numbers finally pushed me. I haven’t worked any GOTV since I ran the labor piece for the AFL-CIO here in 2016. I didn’t think I’d ever do it again, but I can’t sit on my ass anymore. I implore all of you Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Arizona, North Carolina and Georgia Dopers to sign up for at least one shift of knocking on doors, phone banking or even admin work at your local Harris/Dem office.

You want to feel like you’re actually doing something? Do something! Don’t just fret over the poll numbers or read Daily Kos and hope for the best, and don’t just throw money her way and think that’s enough (although that’s good too).

Please do a little, tiny bit of ground work. Even if it’s just one shift sometime over the next two weeks. Most shifts are only three hours and can be during the day, in the evening or on the weekend. Phone calls, door knocking, office work (which could include putting together lit packs for door knocking teams, data entry, signing in volunteers at the front desk, helping volunteers download and learn the canvassing app, etc.)

Go to Mobilize.us to find something near you. The Repubbies aren’t doing anything like this in any coordinated manner. That’s our potential strength here and what will push Harris over the top. Just three hours of your time, ONE SHIFT, over the next two weeks.

They don’t do baseball caps so I think they’re okay with it.

(My first mother-in-law was a member so I’m all too familiar with them.)

Democrats should consider blue hats at some point, but make them a lot nicer than the cheap garbage MAGA wears. Or maybe something other than a hat. It’s way too late in this race for Kamala to consider such a thing of course.

Fuck no! What is this, the 1950s? We’re progressives, damn it! I’m still waiting for when we can finally get rid of pants.

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve seen a lot more Harris yard signs popping up in the neighborhood. And the newer ones are accompanied by a little American flag stuck in the ground. (The kind you might see the VFW planting in cemeteries on Memorial Day.) I think it’s an excellent idea - time to take back our national symbol from the fascists!

Blue kilts then.

Preach it!

I was phone-banking for Wisconsin Democrats this weekend, talking to folks in the northern counties, and came away encouraged. I didn’t speak with one Trump supporter (they’re probably the ones who hung up on me once I ID’d myself) and the Harris supporters were very enthusiastic. More than one person said, “I used to be a Republican but …”

they have the harris walz camo hats. they have difficulty keeping them in stock.

They’re camouflage, even if you own one you might have trouble finding it.

snert.

Seems good to me.

When I go to protests, I take one of those. It’s my flag too; they can’t have it.

Working on it. The used to have a B&M in Pioneer Square, but right now it is mail-order only. Be a trendsetter.

I saw this yesterday, it cracked me up.

eschereal already ninja’ed ya.

I’m pretty sure they were replying to that earlier post.

A friend of mine has a fake MAGA hat that is in the same colors and font that says “Make America Impeach Again”. He graduated from Berkeley in 1970 and has been a very liberal activist ever since. We live in a very liberal area and he wore it to a local event in 2018 that would have mostly liberal people. These two doofuses didn’t read closely enough and were giving him subtle fist bumps and complimenting him on his courage. I wish I could have seen them when they looked at the selfie more closely.

Whops, sorry about that

I don’t get it I’m a woman and though I’ll wear a a skirt/dress occasionally, I would not want to wear them often. They aren’t practical, comfortable, etc. Good grief, women fought tradition and convention to not have to wear skirts.

Maybe the society’s got it backwards, and women are more comfortable in pants but men are more comfortable in skirts?

I agree. Don’t take away my pants! However, looking at the relevant anatomy it always seemed to me that pants were more practical for women while skirts/kilts would suit men better. After all, tailors do not have to adjust women’s pants to accommodate which side they hang on.
