The one way in which skirts seem to me more practical for women is if you need to piss outside somewhere where privacy isn’t certain. If you’re female, the fly is useless for that purpose, because it’s in the wrong place. I’ve occasionally thought of trying to work up a line of women’s outdoor clothing with the flies in the right place, but I’m most definitely no good at sewing stuff and don’t have the resources to hire a designer and a sewing crew; and I’m not sure whether it could be done without making the crotch too bulky for comfort.
It’s been done.
Aha!
Well, I’m glad somebody’s done it.
Moderating:
Time to drop the hats/pants/skirts discussion.
Yeah for sure. I don’t want anyone coming in saying “We could have won with candidate X!” No, not Bernie - we’ve decided we’re not doing old anymore. Not Pete - we’ve got to keep him in our pocket. Not Shapiro - well, I dunno why not Shapiro, but still. All of your favorite Dems immediately threw their support behind Harris. If you trust in Bernie and Pete and Josh, then you gotta get out and vote for Harris.
We’re definitely going to get the President we deserve. A very very very small percentage of people who vote for Trump will gain anything during a Trump presidency. It’s definitely not going to be “sweet revenge” on them as we all watch the country burn down around us.
My only hope is that Harris is inspiring people to vote for her that might not have voted for all. I am still hopeful. And I’m hopeful for the WHOLE country if she wins. She won’t close the door behind her.
I have some GOP types of acquantances that refuse to see Trump as a threat. They are actually laughing at a Kamala win. “She won’t get anything done.” Missing the point: she will have got us past Trump. “America First” will be with us for quite a while, though.
I see “What Has Harris done in the last 4 years?” (never mind it is somewhat less,) but Harris was also a successful US Senator, CA Attorney General, and DA of San francisco. Mind you, yes, the Veep has little power or authority, but she has voter on several ties in the senate.
I definitely agree with the first sentence above. Re: the second - if we get Trump - especially with R majorities in Congress, we’ll have the dubious pleasure of having been around when our country chose to take this step. Experiencing history. That’s something.
I don’t want to sound overly dramatic, but combining the missed opportunities and the unnecessary missteps, it will be quite some time - if ever - that we’ll be able to claw ourselves back to where we are today. Not sure this old man will live to see it.
Mostly foreign policy.
She has made at least 17 foreign trips, and met with Zelensky at least five times.
See:
Kamala Harris Has Been Much More Involved in Foreign Policy Than We Realize
And:
Kamala Harris would bring greater foreign policy experience than most new US presidents
The President’s authority is greatest with foreign and military policy. Domestic policy is more in the hands of Congress and the Federal Reserve. Her experience strongly qualifies her for the POTUS job.
I fear that publicizing this does Harris no favor. Uncertain/undecided voters seem to have especially little realization of how dangerous the Russo-Ukrainian War is to all our futures, especially if Ukraine loses. They falsely think the President “runs” the economy and will vote on that basis.
Before the full current war began in 2022, the common expectation was that, if it began, Russia would quickly occupy Kiev, with all of Ukraine soon falling. Baltics or Poland next. The fact this has not happened is of course mostly due to Ukrainian bravery and commitment. But Harris should get some credit.
Interesting (for better or for worse) Walz seems so much more “vulnerable” to me than Harris.
I can’t get over how just how ‘in your face’ patriarchy’s been this whole time, and I’m still learning about how prominent it’s effects have actually been. Jesus, we have some messed up ways of thinking.
What do you mean by this? Genuinely curious.
My guess is that because Walz spent so much time under the political raider doing everyday jobs before he ran for office and got noticed, there’s much more time that’s “unaccounted for” unless you do the research, and by then the story is out on social media. Can you conclusively prove that Walz didn’t abuse a student on Monday the 25th of March 19whatever? No? I have Mark Floopsburg here who says it happened.
I just think Harris generally comes off as more confident.
Can’t say I expected this: Harris is going to holding a rally Friday in my home state – Texas. I severely doubt this is a play for Texas’ electoral votes, but we do have a close Senate race and the rally will focus on the draconian anti-abortion laws that our state government has adopted. It’s an interesting play with two weeks left in the campaign.
That makes sense. They have a shot at a historic gain here, and winning the Presidency doesn’t mean much if you don’t have control of Congress. We know MAGA will oppose everything she wants to do, and so they need to be completely neutered. Politically speaking, of course!
Harris has not played up her potential role as the first female president, but I have to believe that this milestone would inspire some percentage of unlikely voters to show up. Her black and Indian roots, as well.
I think that’s a good strategy, actually. All these points are kind of obvious on their face, and anyone who cares about them will see them.
But I think a big part of what happened with Clinton in 2016 was that the “First Woman President!!!” thing was too in-your-face, and constantly irritated exactly the wrong people, and got a lot of them out to vote against her.
I agree, and for the reason you stated.
Plus, DJT has being doing a lot to point out she is female with black and Indian heritage. And he has done it in a way that will likely be a strong motivator to get people out to vote for Harris.
Good point. I’ve said for years now that this election will be decided on turn-out. And that’s a game of both motivating your own voters to come out, while not motivating your opponent’s voters to come out against you. That’s a hard balance, and if your opponent wants to help you with it, you should let them.
