Kamala Harris's choice of Tim Walz as VP

Walz: “Make no mistake, crime was up under Donald Trump. And that doesn’t include the crimes he committed!”

:sunglasses:

Yeah. He’s nailing it. Like I said, somewhere, some wall has received a new ketchup stain.

Save The Last Walz For Me.

About time. 3/4 time?

All I can say is Wow! That speech was a barnburner. She could not have made a better choice for a running mate. That’s the kind of leadership and passionate optimism this country needs.

First speech as VP nominee and Walz says to much applause that he would be happy to debate JD Vance… if Vance will get off the couch. Somebody call the fire department!

OK, I am really liking the pick. Great first rally for them.

Vance agrees:

Because of the decision to stop using the Commission on Presidential Debates, it is possible they won’t agree on terms. But I expect them to debate.

P.S. The stated stipulation, so far, is just that Walz is voted as the veep candidate at the convention,

It was a great speech (both of them, really) and Walz nailed it! He’s got it all-- covers so many bases and with great presence and passion. It feels so good to feel some hope again.

I’d have liked a Picture-in-picture with a feed in the corner showing trump’s face while watching it. You know he was watching, although he’ll claim he wasn’t.

They are both a breath of fresh air. Especially Harris and, while this is only my first exposure to Walz (beyond an occasional soundbite), I am really liking him too. I think they will make a vibrant duo.

Fully agree. I never liked Trump’s characterization of Joe Biden as “Sleepy Joe,” but that’s what the Democrats’ campaign had become: sleepy. Going through the motions without much enthusiasm. But today’s speeches, by both Harris and Walz, seem to have energized the Democrats, if the cheering in the arena was anything to go by.

I hope that momentum spreads, and can be kept up.

Quite the rally. I enjoyed the speech by all three. Shapiro seriously had me cheering from my living room. So impressed.

I do feel hopeful and it definitely feels strange to feel that way.

I love the leave no demographic behind approach! Progressive policies schmolicies, his identity is a balm to rural white voters.

I do hope they’ll hone down the number of talking points. They sort threw a whole bunch all out there. Agreed with reproductive freedoms, healthcare, and freedom to love who you love. Gun control even with Walz is likely not in the top three positive messages.

I’m not watching right now but will later - from the comments in this thread I am THRILLED.

Was mentioning the couch a good idea, though? That story is a joke that people believed, as far as I understand it (kind of like Sarah Palin saying “I can see Russia from my window” except she didn’t ever say that, Tina Fey did - only it rang so true that lots of people assumed it was real).

Mind you, not that I care too much. I take some flak in the SD world for being fairly persistently high road and not wanting to get into the mud. And personally, I’d recommend dropping it.

But, as long as the Harris-Walz campaign treats the story as something we all know is a joke, if they want to keep it going, I won’t object. At least it is funny, unlike the Trump-Vance mudslinging which is merely nasty without even being clever or humorous.

I think it was subtle enough to get by. How can the other side complain without highlighting the meme?

Throwing the best kind of shade.

I like the way you think.

I didn’t know anything about Walz. This pretty much covers his resume (MeidasTouch). I’m starting to feel giddy myself.

I watched the rally and am giving my opinion before reading the thread to be less biased. Shapiro gives a barn burner of a speech. He is clearly greatly loved and I see great things for him in the future. Maybe someday he can be the first Jewish President. However, you don’t want someone to overshadow the actual candidate. If you have a calm collected candidate you can send out a charismatic attack dog. Harris needs to be the number one. Shapiro strikes me as too much of a politician for the VP slot.

Harris did well giving Walz’ story. She does have her canned speech but I have to remind myself that not everyone watches all of her speeches. I like how she stays positive. Overall, I continue to be impressed by her.

Walz starts out slow. He is a little annoying rocking back and forth during Harris’ speech. He is a calming reassuring presence. I feel good about having this guy a heartbeat away from the Presidency. I can see Harris dispatching him to Congress to drum up some votes for one of her policies. I like his almost populist appeal. Then boom he drops in an absolute zinger. You almost don’t realize it because he disguises it with folksy charm but he is silently devastating and I am here for it. I freaking love this guy.

Yet another reason to like Walz!
