Kamala Harris's choice of Tim Walz as VP

All gas, no brake! Keep it going!

Heh. That seemed to be the consensus in the Threads thread where I found that.

ETA: On Facebook I also found this compare and contrast of the VP candidates:

Here is one place you can see it…jump to -55:00 (ish) where Harris speaks and then Walz speaks. Shapiro is on before that if you want to see that too:

Never mind my timestamps above. It was a live stream and the link is now a clip. So, just play that clip.

Sorry for any confusion.

No problem; I’ve opened the YouTube link and put it on the taskbar to watch when I finish reading the Dope.

Walz is perfect.

I’m sold!

Love all the love for Walz. I think he was the perfect choice. Brings in that rural charm, but with all the progressive fixin’s.

Shapiro was fantastic too. Got huge Obama vibes from his oration. Someone was taking notes.

A 24 year military veteran and governor of a mid-west state is a very good choice.

I wouldn’t want to be a writer in Trump’s employ who had to find a put-down nickname for “Waltzing Tim”

I wanted Walz. I’d only seen him a couple of times on news shows, but I liked him. I like Shapiro though I had some reservations about Gaza etc. I missed Shapiro’s speech and haven’t been able to find as of yet. If anyone has a link to it, I’d be appreciative.

Dem bench looking pretty deep these days. And Gretchen Whitmer hasn’t even entered the fray yet.

Summary of something I heard in the discussion on CNN tonight:

In Shapiro’s interview with Harris on Sunday, he outlined proposals for what he’d do as VP.

In Walz’s interview he asked her “What can I do to help you?”

Yeah, I remember a few years ago driving somewhere in southeast Wisconsin (I think we were somewhere between Racine and Milwaukee or maybe on the way up to Sheboygan) and seeing all the “Fuck Biden” flags and having to explain to my 6- and 8-year-old at the time who could read enough the deal there. Party of family values, my ass. When have I ever seen a “Fuck Trump” flag? Never.

Here you go.

Something to revel in was all the laughter, joy and humanity.

Seriously, when was the last time anyone heard Trump laugh? Not a smile or his usual smug smirk. True mirthful, affable human laughter?

This is the difference.

They’re currently going with “Tampon Tim”, since he advocated for free tampons for women. I don’t think ragging on his history of advancing women’s health access is going to go quite as they plan, though.

I’m of the opinion that the only truth Trump has uttered this year is that the choice for VP doesn’t matter: people will either vote for Harris or him.

Historically, you can debate whether this is technically true, or whether the VP helped win their state, or helped a percent or two overall. But few things in life are as close to absolutely true as saying the VP choice doesn’t matter.

OK, after saying that, Walz is probably a better candidate than Harris was in 2020, certainly better than Pence or Kaine in 2016. His resume runs down one arm and up the other. He exemplifies all the virtues that the normal Republican party used to extol. The two Ivy League elites on the ballot are Trump and Vance. He likes dogs, guns, and football. He has children. He’s a veteran. He has executive and legislative experience, the latter from a rural county.

And if Harris doesn’t win, virtually all of you will have to look up his name eight years from now, just as virtually all have to look up Kaine or look up who ran with Romney in 2012. Paul Ryan.

Except trump is phony elite. He bluffed and cheated his way through college. Just like he does through life.

Watching the Harris intro speech now, and she’s killing it. She’s doing a great job of laying out all the fine stuff about Walz.

Trump has never spent more than a minute outside the billionaires’ rows of New York and Florida. He’s what 99.99% of Americans think is an elite, no matter how phony and out of place he’s always felt and resented. They could make a tv series about him named the Palm Beach Bum.
