Kamala Harris's choice of Tim Walz as VP

Did I mishear, or did Comer suggest that he might be able to be compromised by recordings made of him and his wife on their honeymoon night? I think that qualifies as weird.

Does anyone know exactly how Walz himself referred to his position when talking about coaching. Did he specifically say he was “the” coach or “a” coach? Most people would infer that “the” coach was the head coach and “a” coach was an assistant coach. It’s not that I think it’s a big deal, but it would be good to clear this up. Hopefully, he didn’t make any really big blunders by saying something like he graduated at top of his class at business school when he really just barely got by. Boy howdy! The voters would never forgive him for something like that for sure!

I’m pretty sure it was always ‘a’ coach, but I can’t back up that claim.

The RW talking heads were up in arms when Harris called him ‘Coach Walz’, because, by gawd, he wasn’t the head coach, he was only an assistant. Never mind that every football coach at every level is called ‘coach’, whether it’s the head coach or any assistant.

I was talking today with someone who doesn’t follow US politics and mentioned the things they’ve been saying about Walz, and that was exactly their reaction.

Followed by : “So the Republicans are just mean and childish?”

I’ve heard him say some form of “when I coached football.”

I was a Little League assistant coach for many years, a head coach for only one. The kids always called me and anyone else on the staff the same thing: Coach [First Name]. This is just one more weird GOP fixation.

You know what’s funny? That article states that “Kennedy asked that Walz remove the reference from his website and noted that the Chamber had endorsed his opponent, Gil Gutknecht,”.

That’s a lie! The letter cited directly above that Starkey statement says,

“It should be pointed out, however, that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has endorsed your opponent, Congressman Gil Gutknecht, for his support of small business issues.”

Bonding added. That’s right, the author of the article complaining about misattribution has made his own misattribution.

I know that when Harris introduced Walz as her running mate she specifically said he was a defensive coach.
I don’t remember who was joking about it (Jon Stewart?), but he was saying that the Republicans made a good point that he was only an Assistant Coach. In fact he should not be running for President. If only there was a job where he could be an assistant to the President, like how an executive chef has a sous-chef. I wonder what we could call that job? Assistant President? Sous-President? Anyway, he should probably run for a job like that first.

Oh my. The US Chamber of Commerce is a very different animal from local Chambers of Commerce, and in fact not infrequently at odds on policy. For sure, that would be a minor detail in most instances, but blaming the Democrats for conflating the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and the Nebraska Jr. Chamber of Commerce (aka the Jaycees) while doing a similar conflation themselves is pretty rich.

“When grasping at straws, take care that the straws don’t also grasp at you.”

How to say you’ve never played sports without directly saying you’ve never played sports.

Yeah, one of my PE teachers (for weight lifting) used to love to be called “Coach” even tho he was no longer one at all (he was on the cusp of retirement)…

Heck, back when I was in Jr High taking PE, all the teachers were coaches. We had a football and a basketball team, but there were at least 3 coaches for the men. I don’t know how many on the other side of the gym.

Half the male teachers in my small school wore these shorts. They were all coach. My little league coach wore them (this was back when you went into little leagues in I think it first grade…no t-ball). We had a lot of coaches.

Dipshits saying he wasn’t “coach” are dipshits.

I got no problem with Walz, or any Democrats, deploying some savagery from time to time. Walz’s mild persona would have made it all the more memorable had he actually issued forth such a burn.

Also while we’re at it…

And Donald Trump is THE EXACT OPPOSITE of this. All he ever does is bitch, complain, complain, bitch. He’s bratty, he’s catty, he’s a gossip, everything’s always SO UNFAIR to him, everyone’s always SO MEAN to him…he’s a fucking bitch. How this guy fits in with the manly man culture of Republicans or of anyone else, I’ll NEVER fucking understand. I don’t think any Democratic male figures who actually do conform to the old-school conception of masculinity should hesitate to call Trump out for this.

Well now he’s made me feel bad about my gutters. Every year I really think I should be checking them for leaves. I don’t know if I can take a four year guilt trip.

I can’t wait to watch this tomorrow! I spent an hour Saturday up on an extension ladder cleaning out my gutter. Squirrels had been filling it with food for the winter!

Where I live, gutter helmets (as the headlines suggest he recomnends) don’t work so well. They quickly clog up with needles.

Lemme see if i can embed the TikTok video itself here:

What? You destroyed your squirrels’ winter food hoard? You cruel brute! I hope you’re satisfied when you see their gaunt, pathetic little faces staring in your windows this winter!

Yeah.

It bothers me some that they’re using “weird” as an insult. I’ve been weird my whole life.

But it matters what direction one’s weird in.

The point of using ‘weird’ is that it’s an innocuous term, it can be applied to multiple things at multiple levels, and ultimately it’s meaningless - for the Left. But it needles the Right like crazy!
