If only they had a good coach…
Instead of an aging frat boy bully.
Instead of an aging wannabe frat boy bully.
Fixed that for you. I don’t think they would have let him in.
Yep. Almost all of attack lines trotted out against Walz have had a shelf life of a few days. Actually, I’m not sure if any of those lines are still be tried in earnest. Maybe the one about Walz being way left, turning Minnesota into California, etc. Analogous to the “San Francisco liberal!” one against Harris.
I know we’re off the topic of Gus Walz, but I just wanted to interject that my 7th grade niece is totally in love with him. We watched Tim Walz’s speech together (to show my mom) and she had seen it before, and when Gus was on screen my niece was cheering for him. “Gus! There he is! I love him!”
I told her she should write him a letter. I think we might do that this weekend. Not a creepy love letter, just a letter of encouragement and support.
And male. Mustn’t forget that.
Hey, I’ve lost 25 pounds. I’m working on it. Dammit.
that is really nice.
walz answered a question about this during the cnn interview.
Tim Walz Says Son Gus’ Viral Moment Was ‘Visceral’ (people.com)
One of my concerns about most of the names waved around as possible VP picks was that misogynistic types might be bothered by man standing behind a woman, basically holding her purse. In many cases, the stronger the resume, the more “presidential” the pick, the worse it might have been, in a peverse way. I kinda thought Whitmer would be better because atleast no man would be subordinate to a woman.
Walz was the perfect solution. He’s a dad, a coach. No one thinks it reflects poorly on the coach to not be the one on the field. He still gets credit. He still gets massive respect. We are even used to male coaches of female athletes. It is a well inderstood narrative that the dynamic of a Coach and a Superstar is not a zero sum game, and the success of one is credit to both. Shapiro and Kelly would have looked awkward standing slightly behind and to the side of Kamela. It would have bothered some voters. Walz stands there an beams.
Walz’ wife gave a speech to a group of teachers and she was pretty good. She’s not as good as her husband but she’s clearly intelligent and relatable. Apparently both her and Trump were in my neck of the woods campaigning. My work is at the junction of red Virginia and blue Virginia so it’s an interesting area.

Do you think it’s a good place for them to invest time?
Shoring up light blue states like Virginia is an excellent use of Gwen Walz.
Gwen Walz speaking to teachers in Manassas makes sense. Trump in Falls Church does not.
For context, both are technically DC suburbs but Falls Church is 20 minutes away while Manassas is closer to 40 minutes. I work about 20 miles south of DC; commuting away from DC takes 30 minutes but going the other way can take more than an hour. I try not to talk politics with patients unless I know that they are anti Trump but the further south people live the more likely they are to answer my question about guns in the home with “Why do you need to know that” and the less likely to be vaccinated against Covid, both of which tend to correlate with political leanings.
I know that my office is right on the line because it’s the dividing line between Blue Cross DC/Capitol Area and Blue Cross Virginia because I take both and every time I change billing services it is a nightmare. (Generally any out of area Blue Cross gets billed to the local one who then arranges the payment but both are local here so you have to bill the right one)
Polls have shown Virginia closer than I am comfortable with so I hope they campaign here. It will also help Tim Kaine who is up for reelection and needs to win.

Who doesn’t love this guy?
Oh man, I had some of those apple cider donuts the last time I was in Lancaster. An excellent choice.
No. Just…no.
Apple cider donuts? Shut up and TAKE MY MONEY!
There’s a farm stand/orchard near where I live, and in the fall you can buy their apple cider doughnuts hot from the cooker. Truly fabulous!
