I just saw a recent movie from Iran by director by Mohsen Makhmalbafthat might have gone unnoticed had it come out only a year ago, but is of burning actuality right now.
The movie tells the story of a young journalist’s attempt to find her sister in Afghanistan. Her journey across Afghanistan in search of her suicidal sister (the sister can’t bear to live under the conditions imposed upon women under the talibans) is the gist of the story. It is partly based on the true life story of Niloufar Pazira who plays herself in this movie. Though the movie was shot in the refugee camps of Afghanis in Pakistan, it is a very good picture of life under the taliban regime in Afghanistan.
It is a hard movie, yet quite beautiful.
I just wanted to share this and to ask you Dopers if you have seen any other movies by the same director, and what you think of them.
It may be presumptuous of a rank newbie to post a thread, so if nobody replies, it’s no biggie.
