I was reading up on a military operation in Afghanistan, and writing a WIkipedia entry on it:
What the heck is a “Kandak” Commando? The US has been using the term “commando” to mean an Afghani or Iraqi unit trained by the US. But what is “Kandak?”
Pashto for “Battalion”.

Whenever a modifier is used for something like “commandos,” I tend to think of what we used to call “Rexall Rangers.”
Rexall as in the drugstore chain, Rangers as in cowboys. Hence, another way of saying drugstore cowboys.
I’m wondering if “Kandak Commandos” would be someone who typically stays in the compound, but swears he goes on missions so classified he can’t talk about them.
