Actually, my wife is joining us. Of course, she gives me weird looks regularly for various reasons, so I wouldn’t have noticed.
Question: I’ve noticed a few folks from the area on some other SD forums. Presumably they aren’t aware of our plans, maybe never even come to the MPSIMS forum. Should we/may we throw in a one-line hijack when we see them post elsewhere, directing them to this thread?
Yes, I think we should; I’ve done it at least once or twice for this Dopefest, but haven’t heard back from anyone. Plus, if you see that they have an e-mail address listed, try sending them an e-mail, too. They might not go back to check the thread again to see your post (or just might miss it), but there’s a better chance that they’ll see an e-mail. I usuallu start my e-mail subject lines out as:
“SkipMagic from the SDMB”
That way they don’t think it’s spam. Hopefully so, at any rate.
You know, I haven’t read a post from Wikkit in a long time. He went to the Dopefest in the Quadcities, and I am fairly certain we could car pool.

Has it occurred to anyone else but Lilacs and myself that on a sunday, at a buffet, it is going to be over flowin’ with god fearin’, go to churchin’ old fogies with all their grand children and probably be mass confusion. I don’t mean to rain on your parade and all but, doh! :dubious: .
I will not submit anyone to the torture of my 2 teenage daughters company. (13 & 16 they will be shortly any way) All one would hear is, “this is boring”, and, “I don’t like this food it sucks”.
Can I get directions to Figlio’s please. If Lilacs or myself can make it we will need them. We both live in Lawrence.

And I wouldn’t worry too much about the unhappy church crowds; the Plaza doesn’t normally find itself swamped with masses of the just damned. At least, I hope it still doesn’t–'cause there’s nothing like a lecture on how you’re screwing up to make you unhappy. It’s kinda like being married. 
Anyway, I think we should be fine.
We occasionally eat at Figlio after church and usually there’s little or no wait for a table. For the 27th, we have a reservation, which should help.
I’ll need to update our reservation with as accurate a count as possible in about a week.

Argh. After e-mailing Misty, I realize that I’m supposed to be hanging out with my younger sister that weekend. I’d really like to come, but I really don’t want to re-schedule that.
Argh. I don’t know how KC fests usually go, but she’s 12 years, 198 days, 16 hours, and 43 minutes old as of this post and I know that wouldn’t fly at some fests. How would you all gauge the kid-friendliness of the plans? She’s a good kid, but there’s a pretty big difference between 12 and 16.

Last year’s Dopefest saw Horseflesh’s two little heathen children attending, and they didn’t come away any weirder than usual. You can check out the pics at this place and see for yourself. She’s more than welcome to attend, your sister, so if you want to come on down, you’re perfectly fine in bringing her.
Last year, even though we had a few bottles of beer and a bottle of wine amongst us, the fest did not turn rude or raucous; in fact, a lot of people sat down and chatted about SciFi and Fantasy books. We’re only Hell’s Angels in our minds. 
Wikkit, I’m 17, so they can’t get too overly rambunctious.
Ok, I’ll ask the annoying one if she wants to come.
My fianceé and I should be able to make it. She’s from KC and knows the way to the Plaza. I hope the buffet can handle this many Dopers.

Well, SkipMagic threw me an email and hooked me in the gills, so here I come flopping and thrashing into this thread.
It seems all has been decided except for the flavor of the kiddie pool o’ Jello. I vote for Love Potion #9. Yeah, that oughta do it.
I’m off the night shift now and even have Monday off so there’s no problem making the 'Fest and the park will be perfect for sleeping off the hangover. My little Dopelings will also be attending for those of you that need to test out their new Acme torture devices.
Did I skim past the part that said we might be treated to another of Baker’s chocolate pi? Mmmmm, I’d do 2 laps in a swimming pool full of broken glass and then take an iodine shower for one o’ her pi’s.

I count 25, total, and I included those who mentioned they might not be there, and those who have popped in earlier to say the’d be there, but haven’t been back since.
My guess is that from the responses given lately, we’ll have anywhere from 15 to 20 Dopers show. How does that work for reservations, Gary T? Do you think they’ll have enough room at Figlio’s? Can we leave Horseflesh’s children behind to wash dishes should one of us show without enough cash to pay?
The Annoying One* has been re-sceduled to this weekend. So I’m on for next weekend, and will be giving rides. And wondering what Mistee’s husband thinks of her going on long car rides with strange men, to meet people described as dopers.
If put her mis-spelled nick into my signature, would misstee post more often? Would that require me to post more often? Is it sad that I previewed and still didn’t catch it?

Well, withak is one of my bestest friends irl, as is his sister, so I guess that makes you the only strange man. 
And besides that point, when it comes to the point in our relationship when he doesn’t trust me and my decisions, then we need to not be in a relationship. I trust him completely. If the situation was reversed, I would not have any reservations about him going on a road trip.
