Go do a google search for “Is Kansas broke?” Then ask yourself why it was ok to remodel the statehouse in the middle of all this. That’s just one example. Google is your friend.
For the record, I belong to no political party. I am neither anti-GOP or anti-democrat. I’m anti-asshole. I’m somewhat anti-Tea Party because my supervisor is rabid about it and keeps telling me stuff like how the Muslims are taking over Texas and are going to attack the US next. He’s very proud of thinking like that. I’m not proud of hearing it. But that’s a personal thing, colored by my daily interactions.
I’m also not anywhere near Overland Park. I’m on the other side of the state. Remember back when NW Kansas wanted to secede from Kansas? Yeah, that part. And I DID move to get away from that kind of sexist crap. Back to my hometown, in fact. That was a huge mistake, but I didn’t have much choice at the time.
Enough ranting. It takes too much energy I don’t have at the moment.
Ok, I can go along with all that. Rural areas can be very backwards to females and progressive issues in general. But then one cannot expect much from a place where you cant even get a good pizza. You ought to look into moving to Kansas city where their are more job opportunities.
To be honest I live in Johnson County and sad to say, dont even consider myself a resident of Kansas. Ive been to Topeka maybe 3 times and only seen western Kansas when I’m driving thru to Colorado. That time I met Paul Davis I honestly was stumped to think of any issue that would affect me as a Kansan. I know - weird. Now ask me about local Johnson County or area bond issues including greater Kansas City (Go Chiefs!) issues and I’m all over those.
Hopefully this summer though we want to take a trip out to see the chimney rocks and some more sights in western Kansas.
You can make arguments either way for most of these elections, but Kansas is dead broke and Brownback’s strategy is to double down. The only reason to vote for him would be to create a Mad Max post-apocalyptic wasteland so all your investments in fallout shelters and trade-weight gold don’t look so silly.
I urge all liberals to adopt this strategy: tell each other how right you are, and assure each other that your opponents suck so badly that the only reason to vote for them is to create a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
And continue to lose actual elections.
I am perfectly happy to read these comments. I’ll even try to look serious, as long as the actual elections result in a liberal loss.
So that’s the deal: liberals get to tell each other they’re the best and lose; conservatives get to win.
Why were all those Overland Park political campaigners so eager to wave their signs at me and enthusiastically wave for my attention yesterday? Could they not see my Missouri License plate fixed so prominently on the front of my car? :D.
But, I agree. OP is a beautiful place. The only detraction I can see is it is a bit crowded.
You’re comparing a sample size of one (you) to a sample size of much more than one (every liberal/Democrat on the board). Your claim is that on the Republican side, we have one person (you) who does not crow in an unseemly fashion, yet on the other side (every single Democrat here), there is a failure to maintain such noble silence. Do you not see what an incredibly unfair and disingenuous comparison that is? For you to have an actual point, you would need to demonstrate that there is not even ONE SINGLE Democrat here who has never spoken up in that fashion.
In other words, if there is even one person here who has leftist views who has never once engaged in this kind of talk, then your comparison is worthless, because at that point, we have successfully identified one person on each side who has managed to keep silent.
Comparing 100% of one person to 100% of, what - dozens? Hundreds? of people is just plain silly.
Does Bricker immediately identify everyone who thinks differently from his views a liberal? I ask only for informational purposes, as it does seem that way from his responses.
Republicans have their own brand of deflection when they lose. They tend to lash out at the “wrong people” voting, or only voting in their own interest instead of the country’s because the Democrats give them goodies. They’re pretty upfront about who they think is qualified to vote.
You can point out all sorts of dumb fuck beliefs and contradictory stances in the electorate. It doesn’t help that approximately 30% of human beings are fascist wackaloons. They should have representation though, right? They know what they want.
It’s OK, Democrats have come up with plenty of other reasons why they lost instead of the voters being exposed in heavy metals in the womb.
Six year itch.
Dark money.
Voter ID.
Dems ran away from Obama.
Racism.
Media narrative.
Diebold.
Republican-lite.
Lazy electorate.
Millennials.

Gerrymandering.
Cynical libs criticizing Dems depressing Dem turnout.
Seems like only yesterday when people were saying the Dems were going to be ascendent and a permanent majority due to the march of demographics.
Georgia just re-elected Nathan Deal as Governor. Yep, the same Georgia that is steadfastly bucking the trend of improving jobs numbers by obstinately moving in the opposite direction. The same Georgia that is losing ground in the race to improve it’s eduction standings, and it’s hard to lose ground when you started off as number 49 out of 50 states.
Yep, let’s send him back for another 4 years, that will work out nicely.
I’m not sure I should blame the voters, except for my theory that the forecasters may have influenced the motivation to get out and vote. I say that because many polls were predicting that both the race for GA governor and the race for our open Senate seat were so close that they were almost certainly headed for a run-off. I theorize that many voters thought “oh well, I’ll wait and vote in the run-off election, when it really will matter”.
I’m not going to try to write a character profile on Bricker, Megaera; I don’t have the chops. But, speaking as the man who issued an inviolable decree that no Republican is ever again to be permitted to win the office of the Presidency,* I’m just going to say that I like him.
Even [del]if[/del] though he is wrong about virtually every political position he embraces. Although not without his character flaws,** he is also not without his admirable traits.*** And it is for those that I commend him to you as a valuable member of the Doper community.
Now, the likelihood is that you don’t know me from Adam, and you have no particular reason to take any of my posts as received wisdom from the heavens. But I offer it anyway, along with a hearty welcome to the SDMB. And a congratulations to you for lurking for ten months between registering and posting. Ten months may be a LITTLE long, but if more new members would lurk for a significant period before their inaugural post, more of them would probably stay. May your time as a Doper be pleasant and fruitful.
Admittedly, I DID issue it in 1972. It’s taken a while to kick in.
** And, in point of fact, none of us are, not even I.
*** Which I do not intend to list here. I said at the beginning of the post that I wasn’t going to try to write a character profile.
Has the education system in Kansas been that bad for at least a full generation or has the water been poisoned with stupid pills?
Same for Iowa. Iowa actually scores higher on ACT and SAT exams than any state. How in the heck could they elect a woman who believes the TSA is going to round up Republicans and put them in concentration camps?
