Kansas, O Kansas

True; it’s better than Mississippi.

Not in the least. That’s a statement about liberal politicians; it says nothing about liberal voters.

On the SDMB, though, is the comparison I’m making. I readily concede the existence of people spouting foolishness and leaning conservative elsewhere.

You still haven’t addressed the ridiculousness and inequality of comparing yourself, alone, to a vast number of people on the other side.

Yeah, back to the Iowa thing … we are now “lucky” enough to be represented in DC by both Steve King and Joni Ernst. That’s the biggest combination of Tea Party derpitude for one state since Michele Bachmann and her imaginary identical cousin.

Ernst is going to make Washington squeal, just like the pigs she castrated. She carries heat to protect herself from “the feds,” so I guess that means … from herself? She called America the greatest country “in the face of the world” (which may not actually be an unintentional slip of the tongue, considering “in your face” seems to be the Tea Party/GOP worldview). She thinks corporations are people, but government is not.

So yeah, Kansas. Iowa is doubling down.

I heard the writer Steven King offered the politician $10 million to change his name. Or maybe I didn’t hear that and its just a scuzzy rumor I’m starting.

It’s as similar as comparing senator appointments to voter suppression among other things which I understand from a reliable source are close enough to prove the equivalence of both sides.

I once had a friend go to the Texas DMV to get a Texas driver’s license. They’d been in Fairbanks Alaska for over three years. The clerk explained about all the documentation and driving tests my friend would need to take, because “we don’t accept driver’s licenses from foreign countries.”

I’m just impressed that was regarding Alaska and not New Mexico.

Hey, I SAID it was an old bit of electoral doggerel. I never claimed it for my own.

[snooty pedantic tone] Bill Safire unless I am quite mistaken [/snooty pedantic tone]

Okay, I’ll be more explicit.

Re-stolen.

I had not formed an opinion yet. I’ll take yours under consideration, certainly.

I didn’t post for 10 months because I didn’t have anything I wanted to say. And I was reading. Fascinating stuff on this board. (I lurked on Usenet for 8 years before I posted there. Again, busy reading.) Anyway, I do need to learn how to quote properly on here next. I worked the last 6 weeks, 7 days a week, without a break so that might not happen tonight.

No one is perfect. Not a one. Least of all me. I’m just a cranky old woman, a recovered SysAdmin, who is rapidly learning to loathe where I am for a great many reasons, state politics being only a small part but a relevant one.

This.

(Well, they’re both problems).

BTW, I’m a Lawrence Liberal, like Paul Davis. People here are walking around like it’s The Day After (much of which was filmed here).

I agree that “mountain bike” is a bad name for the object in question, and that your post was funny. I do walk, bike, or drive up a real Kansas “mountain” every day – Mount Oread (it’s got a 150-foot vertical, and you can see for a mile or two from the top!).

Because, in your heart, you know we are right.

Oh, so your a KU student.

I think their is more to it than that.

You know the saying “working with democrats is like trying to herd cats”.

Thats very true. The democratic candidates picked are usually the ones the most liberal sides of the party have vetted. I know of one case where a very good candidate couldnt get the party nod because the Union people didnt like him.

Pro business democrats dont get the party nod at least not in Kansas. Most candidates are attorneys.

Another thing, the democratic candidate or any candidate has to hit the ground running and really press the flesh. Get around. Campaign. Shake hands. Kiss babies. Listen to people. Tell why and when they have the views they have. Be able to defend your stands.

Bill Clinton was the best at this.

Bullshit. Most Democratic candidates are moderates.

Show me one anti-business Democratic candidate.

Yeah, I think that’s what I already said.

Perhaps, but re: your prior assertion, Clinton was not remotely the most liberal candidate. He was a moderate, but he was good at triangulation. He was not a liberal champion. See “Sister Souljah moment” for example. HOWEVER, he also mostly avoided being a mealy mouthed pussy. See “it’s the economy, stupid.” So, he at least appeared to strongly advocate for his positions instead of cowering.
