This program airs at 8:00 on Tuesday nights here in Atlanta on our NPR affiliate. I was driving home last night, listening to the tail end of the show, and heard that Karl Haas had died last Saturday.

I am by no means an expert on classical music, and I don’t listen to this show on a regular basis, but when it’s on I listen. Haas had a way of explaining nuances of classical music in a way that didn’t make you feel you being being talked down to. And he had the most mellifluous voice! Listening to him you could feel the joy he had for music.

Fortunately, his show is timeless, and will continue to be broadcast.

RIP, Dr. Hass. I only listened to you in the car, but when your show was on, I felt I had a wise old friend as a passenger.

While not always an amazing show, Dr. Haas provided some very entertaining and insightful moments for me. I can’t remember a time in which I did not listen to Adventures in Good Music, I think it has been with me most of my life.
Plus I always get a chuckle when I think of Garrison Kielor’s wonderful and gentle parody: Adventures in Good Country Music with your host Karl Hoss Cartwright. They played La Donna Mobile which roughly translated to “Donna in her mobile home”
Also, thanks to Haas, I can’t hear Beethoven without thinking of him.

I will greatly miss him.
