Karr released? What about the money he owes?

Taxpayer dollars. Obstruction of justice. And shouldn’t he get a psych eval? The guy got to eat lobster and steak in the course of getting himself off the hook for whatever he was charged with in Thailand, and now he gets to waltz away to look at more kiddie porn? If I were a taxpayer in Colorado, I would be super-pissed.

At who? Karr, or the boneheads who arrested him?

exactly. Karr’s a nutcake. There was no connection between him and the Ramseys, he was living in another state at the time, it begged credulity to believe that some random guy would up and leave his home on Christmas, travel several states over to find some random house he’d never been in, enter it, kidnap, rape and kill the child he didn’t know would be there, while the parents he didn’t know were also in the house, being able to find his way in the dark in a house he’d never been in, to find some hidden away spot, then spend another long while writing a long fake letter full of information he didn’t have, then leave and travel quickly enough back home so his family didn’t know he’d been gone.

stuff that certainly could have (should have) been easily discovered prior to extraditing from Thailand.

You think you’re pissed off now, wait until he gets hired as a 6-figure psychic consultant to the investigation, since he knew information that “only the real killer would know.”

Linky?

Think he’s still facing kiddie porn charges from California…

He’s being extradited to California. He has been released by the Boulder police (but still in custody).

The Boulder DA is an embarassment. Ever wonder what happened to the CU football players who were accused by her of rape and the accusations that the football program was using sex and alcohol/drugs to recruit? Not a damn thing. All charges have been dropped.

Ah, but:

“…Are we going to see any apologies? I doubt it…”

Quick quiz: Which would you rather face, child porn charges in California or incarceration in Thailand? Hmmm? Seems to me that Karr has worked the system to his advantage perfectly. It’s a damn shame that the tabloids that masquerade as the “press” today fell for it hook, line and sinker and took us along for the ride.

Why should he pay? He may be mentally ill. He had child porn on his computer years ago, and sounds like an unpleasant guy, but he didn’t seek out the police–they came after him. He may be getting something out of this, but again, his contribution was that he e-mailed with a professor for four years, and made some comments that aroused that person’s suspicions. He seems to be very obsessed with JBR and I don’t know yet what it means to him that he was “with her”–he may mean astral travel, for all we know.

My WAG is that the Thai police broke the story before the US had a chance to investigate him to see if he was a credible suspect. The US chose to fly him in business class; it seems to be beyond some people’s realm of experience, but what he ate wasn’t atypical for business class international travel. Why business class? Probably to limit the number of people in a row with him, for his safety. It’s not as if they said to him, “Mr. Karr, would you rather fly in business or coach?”

Wasn’t he arrest in Thailand for some cause? Can’t we just send him back?

I had to laugh when his lawyer (on CNN) talked about the injustice of Karr’s extradition. He probably smells a lawsuit. His client confessed, for pete’s sake. If not to the actual murder, at least to “being there when she died”.

The authorities couldn’t just ignore Karr’s confession, could they? Especially after the media got hold of it, with all the quotes about Karr knowing things only the killer could have known, etc.

Apologies from who? I never said he was guilty.

To the OP, I think it’s ridiculous to make somebody pay for ther own arrest and extradiction.

On the plus side, those children he was due to start teaching in Thailand a week or two back are now safe from him, his face has been splashed on every other newspaper around the world which will make it a heck of a lot harder to get nannying jobs in the future, and after he has faced the charges in California he’ll probably be forced to register as a sex offender. If any good can come out of this, it’s that just maybe there are some children who will now be safe from him. He may not have killed JonBenet, but he’s a sick and strange man with an unhealthy interest in children that couldn’t come to any good.

Yes, he was arrested because the US said he murdered JBR. There were no Thai charges. We can’t send him back because he had child porn on his computer in 2001 (at which time apparently he was evaluated as JBR’s killer and no evidence was found) and fled before his court date. Now that his whereabouts are known, and especially given the high profile he now has, and the inappropriateness of sending him to work with children, of couse California is going to want him.

He faced no charges in Thailand. Now that he is back in the States, he’ll go back to California to face his old charges there, but he was only arrested overseas due to JonBenet case.

Having kiddie porn on your computer makes you eligible for registration ?

likely true, depends on jurisdiction. IIRC, does in MI.

The threshold for making the registry can be surprisingly low.
Count me as someone who had suspected the possibility that what we had here was one sick puppy who was maniacally obsessed with stories of kiddie-crimes (not just Ramsey but also Klaas) and in the process of feeding his obsession was able to dig up a lot of info that the average bloke can’t know, but which can be assembled by extracting bits and pieces from folks who do, and kept getting into it until he got to the point that he inserted himself into the story. Thus, he had been corresponding extensively with people involved in the JBR case, and at one point someone grew suspicious of this particular correspondent’s line of communication and tipped off authorities.

Karr needs to answer for the Kiddie Porn charges pending in California, PLUS he needs one serious mental evaluation.
