A rare repeat of the entire Saturday Night Live with Eric Idle as the host and Kate Bush as the musical guest will be aired, according to my Tivo:
Sunday December 22 3:01am (Central) Channel 5 (NBC, I believe).
The Tivo lists it at 1:29, which means that both her songs (“The Man With The Child In His Eyes” and “Them Heavy People”) will be shown. Most other repeats over the years were an hour, and cut out “Them Heavy People.”
Just a heads up for those who might be interested.
I saw that when it first aired. I remember “The Man with the Child in His Eyes” - KB wore a sparkly bodysuit and had a very come hither quality. Or maybe that was just my fevered 16 year old imagination. Anyway, a very unique SNL moment. Thanks for the heads up.
As far as I know she’s simply been here quite infrequently and takes a boat if possible. Deathly afraid of flying yes…never been here, Nope (I saw her interviewed while in Toronto a few years back and it tweren’t no sattelite feed).
Not so. NBC regularly runs old eps at his time. I checked out TVGuide.com and they show the episode.
This was Kate’s only live performance in the US. Watch for a young Paul Schaffer accompanying her on the piano. Also note the audience who have absolutely no idea what they’re watching.
Kate invented the wireless headset mike during a tour. The standard mike was interfering with her dancing, so she fashioned a headset out of a hanger and stuck a radio mike on it.
No, it’s not your imagination. I felt the same way you did (although I didn’t actually see that SNL episode until it was rerun about four years later).
I was only in my teens and had mixed feelings about her music but, after seeing that, I wanted to propose to her.
She’s not afraid of flying, but flying hurts her inner ears. She takes the Concord to minimise the flight time. Being besotted fans, my husband and I once met her plane, when she came to NY to promote the album Hounds of Love in 1985.
She’s been to the US several times actually, but the SNL is the only time she’s ever performed here. She’s come to promote albums (she also came for The Red Shoes), and for vacations. During one trip she flew in a small plane over the Grand Canyon, not something someone who is afraid of flying would do.
There is an urban legend that she did a small show in Denver or somesuch place once, but there has never been confirmation or proof of that.
That’s the truth! It was invented for her for her only tour in 1979.
Yep, that’s it. She’s sitting on top of the piano (played by, yes, Paul Schaffer) for “The Man With The Child In His Eyes” and during “Them Heavy People” she wears an overcoat and fedora.
Watch Eric Idle’s face when he first introduces her. He has a look like “I don’t know what you people are going to think of her, but she’s fucking brilliant so you’d better appreciate her.” (Ok, maybe I’m projecting, but that’s what it looks like to me!
If you get the chance, check out her “Live at the Hammersmith Odeon” concert. She wears the same outfits. I first saw this on the USA Network before it began to suck. I also caught her video profile on USA’s Night Flight and was immediately hooked.
