Kate Bush to recieve CBE

She is on the 2013 New Years list receiving a Commander of the British Empire. Leaving aside the politics (please!) what does this mean?

Are you asking what the CBE is?

Sorry, makes that a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

Also honored was Ewan McGregor, who is now OBE-wan Kenobi.

I know what it is, I was asking what it means.

I am not sure what your question is. It is an honor, a medal. She does not get to actually command the British Empire, not even the tiny bit of it that is still left.

I guess it means that someone who has influence on the British government, or on the Palace, is a Kate Bush fan.

As I understand it, she’ll end up paying more at hotels and restaurants.

It means that should the Order of the British Empire go into combat, Kate Bush and other commanders such as Brian May will decide overall strategy, officers such as Mark Knopfler will command troops in the field, and the likes of Ringo Starr and Noddy Holder MBE will be the cannon fodder.

That’s a relief. She should command spies though, owing to her great success in keeping her personal life private. Disappear for twelve years, have a kid and keep it a secret for years.

AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG! aaaaaarrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggg!

Or who Kate Bush is?

Cause that’s what I want to know.

Yeah. This.

Kate Bush.
A very attractive (IMHO) singer from England. She did some work with Petewr Gabriel you may have heard (Don’t Give Up) in addition to her solo work.

Who is, no doubt, giddy and twirling her hair with self satisfaction that “attractive” would be listed first amongst her honors.

Here’s some samples…
Running Up That Hill
The Big Sky
Don’t Give Up - with Peter Gabriel

It means that - get this - she’s so pop-u-lar! She’s so popular. Popular.

Yes, yes. I know. I know.

Meh - I doubt she’s losing and sleep over it.

Taking this question seriously, she’s an incredibly talented singer and songwriter who pioneered use of digital synthesizers and production from the 80’s on.

Good on her.

It should also be noted that she was a household name in the late '70s and '80s pretty much everywhere bar the U.S. “Wuthering Heights”, for example, was #1 in the U.K., Australia, Belgium, Ireland, Italy and New Zealand, making the top 10 in Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland, and making the top 20 in Austria and Germany; it didn’t even make the Hot 100 in the U.S.

CBE= Covers Bloody Everything

OBE= Other Bastard’s Efforts.

I never understood this. I love her music and everyone I’ve introduced her stuff to loved it as well. It’s almost like some group of US radio execs came to the conclusion that Americans would never go for it and decided to give her zero air time.
