Kathy Griffin and Trump Derangement Syndrome

Ah, but while you and I might agree on which is the good man and which is the bad, there were a lot of Americans who were absolutely convinced (by their own racism or ideology) that Obama was a monster who deserved death.:frowning:

I’m not Republican. And I didn’t tell anyone how they think.

I said liberals will eat themselves over this Maher thing and fall all over each other ( a snark obviously … The fall all over themselves part) to denounce Maher.

That’s all come true. The liberals eating themselves over Maher.

It would be a rather large assumption to believe that most liberals give a shit about Maher. I’m a liberal, I’ve never watched his show and have always thought he was a smug jackass.

Here’s a current thread on the topic.

Liberals are chiming in with differing opinions without eating each other.

I believe you on the validity of that thread.

I was mostly going by the mess i saw last night when it broke, liberals (the ones i read last night) opinions on liberals eating each other, and my fb page.

edit: Just looked at thread. That’s some header! As for the OP…well now were getting into semantics. I could have said “liberals”. And yes i do believe the term has become polarized and confusing and i probably should stop using it.

I already covered that. The fact they can be absolutely convinced that Obama is a monster tells me something about these people. And thus I can think badly of them over it.

Being convinced that Trump is a monster, when he’s flat out open about this, tells me something different, and I can be completely indifferent or even somewhat supportive of it.

Bush is another different, and my feelings about him are different still. Generally, I think the people are wrong to burn him in effigy, but I understand why they think Bush is evil, and don’t think they are evil for thinking that.

Clinton is closer to Obama, but I do understand those who think he is a rapist. Bush Sr. I don’t know enough about to have any opinion. And Regan is very divisive.

My point is, who the person is matters in whether I find something offensive. Not in whether they have the right to do it, but just in whether I personally find it offensive.

Well that’s the thing, Dale Sams.

People of a certain ideology like to make statements like that. “Liberals are doing X”. Well that implies - and is meant to imply by those people, that ALL Liberals are doing X.

So really, if you don’t want people rightfully smacking you down for the inaccuracy of that kind of statement, please do not make those kinds of statements.

But of course, the idea that ALL LIBERALS were doing this was central to your post, which you probably would not have made if you really meant “Gosh, some of Maher’s liberal fans are suddenly falling all over themselves to disavow this!”.

I disagree. If i had meant all I would have said all.

Other people in that cited thread said exactly what i said. The implication that i meant all is disengenous. I meant “enough” liberals will eat each other to make a great deal of people notice and comment. And that’s happened. If you need me to make ten cites of liberals calling out other liberals im happy to do so after i eat. But I’m going to expect some internet points for my labor.

Or do you think when people say “Hey white people” or “Dear white people”…they literally mean ALL white people? Did Samantha Bee really mean ALL white people when she went off on “White America” in November? No, of course not. She meant ‘enough to make a point.’

If someone stood outside your house with a bloody decapitated head made to resemble you would you really feel non-threatened?

Did that happen?

I never thought “liberal” could be a polarizing word, but I guess you’re right, because I have nothing in common with many who self-identify as liberals these days. It has been a pretty massive identity crisis for me. Some of these people are fucking insane. The fact that some right wingers are also fucking insane is cold comfort.

Gosh, perhaps our resident language police might pay a visit and weigh in.

If we’re being honest, I might panic for a moment until I checked to see if my head was still on.

I worry about the “salami slicing” tactic being in play here.

First they suppress people “clearly” doing offensive political commentary on the edge.

Then the people near the edge are the edge. Then those get suppressed. Etc.

This is a very common technique in repressive regimes and you gotta go with Evelyn Beatrice Hall on this.

I don’t see any real suppression happening here, though.

Meh, it’s just women’s locker room talk.

The salami slicer is still warming up.

No.

I was actually looking for that post from Okrahoma everyone is quoting.
I was looking for it to tell him that no matter how many extra burlap hoods or feet of extra rope or horses or torches he has for two entertainers …
I’m busy that night.

Fuckin’ A. Saying someone is liberal isn’t allowed anymore? It’s offensive?

I wish the left could stick to a definition of a term they approve of for more than an hour.

I wish the right would stop saying what the left thinks.

Liberal is a perfectly fine word, and many of us are proud to be liberals.
