The only HIV positive muppets I know of are on in various African countries where AIDS is an epidemic and one out of five kids have it- in which case it certainly is a children’s issue and needs to be addressed.
RE Katy Perry
I’m on dial up and can’t see the video on YouTube. I did see bits of it on some infotainment show. I thought Perry looked fine. I loved her response to the whole thing. She sent out a public e-mail saying she hoped to be on Sesame Street again and ending with “Tag, Elmo, you’re it!”
A ghetto one in central Phoenix. I saw short skirts, plenty of cleavage and got an eyeful of thong from the girl who sat in front of me every day during Social Studies my freshman year I miss that class.
Edit: No, I don’t want to look at 14-year old girls.
The muppet was HIV-positive and was only introduced in South Africa, where, as somebody has already mentioned, HIV is most certainly an issue directly affecting children.
I think it was brilliant. Katy Perry, whose real skill is self-promotion through sightly risque behavior (her first 2 popular songs were “I kissed a girl” and “UR so gay”, gets some publicity. Think about it, name another guest star on Sesame Street in the last 7-10 years, especially one whose appearance made the nightly news and the internet light up.
Sesame Street, which is now in its 40s, dealing with competition from 24 hour children’s cable channels and has been losing ratings to newer programs and parents defecting due to the “elmo-ization” of the show. Leak a video to youtube and all of the sudden you are news again on the eve of the new season.
Cleavage aside, as soon as I saw it I knew it was just too much skin for Sesame Street. Google image search of Sesame Street’s Gina. She occasionally wears a conservatively cut V neck - and that’s about as much skin that has ever been on Sesame.
I’m not a parent that would complain or even care, but this clearly wasn’t in line with their standards. For some reason, that’s not a popular opinion.
Isn’t Sesame Street a descendent/spinoff of The Muppet Show? I know it’s meant for younger kids, but perhaps it’s worth remembering that the Muppets frequently had racy/suggestive stuff on their show. Michelle Pfieffer on “The Muppet Show Tonight,” and a number of guests on the original program (who was the model who tried to get Fozzie Bear to go back to her green room for “tea”?)
I think it’s cute that someone in this thread actually thought she was a b cup (or even a c). Katy Perry’s tits are probably more famous than she is and certainly at least a D, maybe a DD.
Her on the cover of Esquire (sfw since it’s a magazine cover and she’s covering all the relevant bits, but just be aware she has no shirt on).
Sesame Street predates The Muppet Show by seven years, and the two were created by different people. In fact, Henson got on board well after Sesame Street was in development, and had to be convinced to even do a kid’s show. (More info)
