Keith Olbermann!

In case some of his fans have missed this, Keith Olbermann has a new political commentator spot on the GQ Youtube channel.

Here’s one of his recent spots.

Ah, it’s great to see Keith draw his Flaming Sword and skewer someone again - most especially Trump.

I miss Countdown.

I do too, but this is just as good. Cheaper sets and sound maybe, but Keith is in fine form.

Here’s another good one.

Keith is awesome.

I would love to see him replace Brian Williams in that 11pm time slot on MSNBC.

I’m not much of a Keith fan, but he does sum up Trump supporters nicely with the Blazing Saddles quote:

“You’ve got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know… morons.”

The person I would like to see Keith not skewer is himself. He keeps fucking things up. Now he’s on a YouTube channel because he lets his giant ego get in the way of doing his job. I would like to see him back on MSNBC, Comedy Central, HBO, something! Maybe he can keep things together long enough to move into a real gig.

What does he keep fucking up?

Olbermann has a history of fighting with his boss, which is never something that leads to long-tenured employment.

He’s certainly lost nothing in his scathing delivery. I can’t take any of them as a steady diet, but an occasional well-crafted rant can be fun.

I generally think he’s a pompous jackass, but when he’s right, he’s right.

I like Olbermann a lot, but I’d prefer if he cooled it on the “dumb-guy voice” bits. Just read the quote - your audience is smart enough to see if it is absurd.

He was the man back in the days of “dissent is treason” for being one of the few sane voices about Iraq in the mainstream media.

Mmm…honestly, I’ve never been a really big fan of him, mainly because the only thing he really has going for him is absolute, unflinching ballsiness. That counted for a lot back in the Bizarro World Dubya-worship days, but it’s really nothing special now. He’s pretty much just a fairly smart, very angry man who happens to be on the right side. He doesn’t have the witty snark of John Oliver, the breadth of knowledge and historical perspective of Moviebob, the satirical mastery of Mark Fiore, or the honest humanity of Michael Moore.

That said, after having to endure so much right wing BS in my lifetime, anyone on the right side is a breath of fresh air. So as long as bloviating vacuums like Donald Trump win Republican presidential nominations, the Catholic Church is allowed to impose its sanctimonious sewage on flippin’ hospitals, privatizing profits and socializing losses is still a thing that’s allowed to happen, black men continue to get slaughtered by cops, “vaccines cause autism” isn’t grounds for having a gag shoved in one’s mouth, and there’s still any kind of debate on whether we need to get the ball rolling on fighting global warming right fricking now, I’ll always be glad Olbermann’s there to remind me that, no, not all the old white guys have gone to the dark side just yet.

And dang, I’d love to have even half his ability to land on his feet. With all the bridges he’s burned, he should be at the “shilling Viagra” stage of his career by now.

I had never heard of him until recently when I clicked on a Youtube like to a video which sounded interesting. I really like his delivery and he has a great voice and so far, I don’t think he goes too far overboard in what he says.

A question, though. He is on the GQ Youtube channel. Is that GQ as in Gentlemen’s Quarterly? It seems to be an odd video to represent the Gentlemen’s Quarterly (if it still even exists).

Bob

He’s quite full of himself, and is very adept at wearing out his welcome wherever he is employed. He started out as a sportscaster, eventually getting an anchor spot at ESPN’s SportsCenter, then either left or got asked to leave. after a few more stints in the sports world, he went to MSNBC as a political commentator. Like many of them, I tend to agree with some of what he says, and disagree with some. but he comes off as such a conceited, self-absorbed, know-it-all-prick that I have to fight to acknowledge when I agree with him.

I liked him better when he was Sam Eagle.
