KellyM, your ignorance astounds me.

Ok, here is the deal, I don’t want to hijack this thread anymore.

I put this in the Pit because I have some not so nice things to say about this.

It was said you were in the 99.5th percentile, and it was not corrected, so I assume you agree with that.

If this is the case, then how is it that you are so fucking stupid!!!
You stick words in my mouth and twist statements I say, obviously not reading or remembering what I had said previously.

Wow, amazing reading comprehension for such a brilliant gifted woman. Gee, I do think I said that my conception of the school board and such was flawed. Do you remember that post, bitch? Or did you deliberately forget it? Here, I will post it for you-

Or perhaps in your lofty genius you couldn’t understand that I was saying I was wrong… I am such a neanderthal after all, sometimes I don’t realize that my grunts are not understood by the civilized folk that have education.

Here it is again. I was wrong, I didn’t know, my information was flawed! I conceeded the point and admited it, you see- I can admit my views are not always right. Do you comprende?
This from the poster that, in a discussion about the importance of a child learning to deal with bullies, slides down that slippery slope and compares me with a person that lets my child do whatever he/she wants, dangerous to life or not. Totally ignoring my previous post:

But hey! This automatically means that I let my kid go to biker bars and get involved with life threatening situations. Dear me! It also means that I don’t help my child learn to deal with things on his own. I mean, what kind of parent would I be if I had kids? Not fixing all my childs problems, “mediating” every little problem that arises, and keeping my child from having to deal with problems himself.

You, KellyM, are a nutcase. Care to throw any more logical fallacies at me, slide down that slippery slope, take my statements out of context, and ignore my previous statements some more?

Is this a tactic all you Uber Genius people employ?

Personally anyone who goes around waving a number in my face is a moron. The real question is: “What have you done for me lately?” I demand people show/use their merit from one’s mental faculties (whatever form taht might take), and often that isnt describable by a number.

Ahh, as an update, apparently it is proven that bully situations are deadly, because columbine occured and a few other incedents.

By this logic, I am going to stay out of any skyscrapers the rest of my life. Look at 9/11.

The only person waving numbers around is Epimetheus. I haven’t claimed to be in any particular percentile of the population, and to be honest I don’t know, as I haven’t taken a standardized test in years, and the last one I did wasn’t a general population test anyway. I didn’t respond to his use of percentiles because it was not particularly relevant to the discussion.

Thats true, lee claimed it, when I suggested you were 98th percentile.
I have been waving the number around immaturely, I admit. It just makes me feel good that a guy with a 95 IQ is holding his own in a debate against one in the 98th+
It sort of stresses the point as well. That even a superior intellect can be wrong and make fallicious assumptions.

So are you going to respond to the points I made. If I am wrong and being a complete dick I would like to at least know it. Learning from my conflicts and experiences and all.

::snicker::

Epithemus, you may want to go and look at what those percentiles translate to in terms of IQ. 98th to 99.5th percentile are in no way uber genius.

Well, to a guy with an IQ of 95, somebody with an IQ of 135 (98th percentile right?), it is UBER genius. Its all relative.

95? This looks like another case of a man adding some numbers to make himself look better.

Well, from what I can see, there’s no absolutes either way. There has to be some kind of balance as either extreme is just as bad as the other.

Yea, that sounds vague, but that’s all I could come up with as I can see all the points. I hate doing that!

Yeah I can see Epithemus’s point. Why, if we extrapolate from that if someone has an IQ of 50, then someone with an IQ of 95 is an Ubergenius! So no matter WTF your IQ is, you still get to be an Ubergenius in comparision to someone else! Brilliant, just brillant.

Actually, the greatest percentage of scores fall around 100. The approximate distribution of IQ scores in the population show that most people (i.e. any average Joe) scores 95-104 on an intelligence quotient. So, if you look at an actual IQ score curve (which I am right now, just look in any psychology textbook), you’ll find that the score 135 is at the EXTREME of the curve. So, 135 is actually an UBER genius (if you consider that very low percentages of the population score in that extreme, or either for that matter) after all (that is if you think that IQ tests are valid and reliable).

IQ tests are ludicrous, IMHO.

I agree. But its always fun to hear people flash numbers around. Otherwise, we wouldnt have such entertaining discussions in the Pit.

flood

135 is in no way, shape or form at the extreme of the bell curve. The outliers for IQ testing are about 180 to 190 with a couple of people who have tested over 200.

I’m just flashing numbers because goddamnit! if you’re gonna flash numbers and percentiles, at least get it right!

Look, there’s no need to get your undies in a bunch. As I said, the particular curve that I’m looking at shows that about 2% of people score in the 135-144 range. If this isn’t the extreme of the curve, then I really don’t know what is. Now, this is the 98 percentile correct? Isn’t that what we were talking about? Considering that only 2 in every 100 people score in the 135-144 range, I’d consider that person a genius regardless. Now get off my case lest I start a thread named “Primaflora, your ignorance astounds me”.

ummmm, did you miss the winkie? I haven’t got my panties in a bunch, sunshine. Takes a lot more than that to get my panties in a bunch.

And if you wanna start a thread about my ignorance about the top percentiles, IQ testing and the bell curve and how it all plays out, please, be my guest. My point is that while 130 is the 98th percentile, it’s not an extreme IQ score. It’s high but not extreme. Once you get to the 99.999 percentile, you’re looking at one in 10 000 and higher than that you’re looking at one in a million pretty quickly. You can look at a psych text book and decide that 130 is a genius IQ but if you get into the specialist literature on extremes of IQ, 130 very rapidly becomes a totally ‘normal’ score compared to the people who are at the extreme extremes.

Anyhoo shall we just get back to bashing whoever is getting bashed in this thread?

sigh Ok, fine. But I do so with a great amount of reluctance.

If there are people with IQs of 200 they are the geniuses. Just being smarter than most of the herd does not a genius make. The difference between 135 and 200 seems greater than 135 and 95 to me. Comparing both those to 200 would make them just look like dumb and dumber.

[sub]Mind you, for all my pot stirring I do not take IQ tests seriously, I take pot stirring very seriously though[/sub]

I take pot smoking quite seriously as well.

Thylacine! Stop stirring the pot! ;). Roll it up neatly.

Actually I don’t consider merely scoring over 200 or over any level of IQ makes a person a genius. A genius is someone who transforms a domain of human endeavour and that’s been done by people who may not score highly on an IQ test. Just scoring 220+ on an IQ test and attending college at the age of 8 to use one example I know of doesn’t make a person a genius.
